Bad cop. Plain and simple. Ruining the reputation of thousands of good ones. Luckily it was caught on video so justice can be served.

But people are really latching on to these race videos as of late, aren't they? And the media knows it! Black injustice equals ratings boom! I hate it. I don't want to be judged as a criminal because another person that looks like me commits crimes. I don't want to be denied a promotion because somebody else of my race was incompetent. I don't want to have a bad reputation because the media portrays people in my profession as 'out of control'. Gotta suck to be a good, well trained police officer right now, huh?

I see, so the good cops reaction to this is "oh noez my reputation" " oh noez my promotion", I can see why not many of the bad cops get reported

The person who recorded the cop needs to stay anonymous and not show themselves. The guy who recorded the garner murder was bagged by the cops after they realized who he was. I hate to say it but its dangerous to record cops in America.

Yeah, he would've gotten away with it too. This would've been just as confusing as the case with Mike Brown had there not been a camera because he was going to try and blame the deceased for taking his taser..when all he did was take it out of the cops hand drop it and run.

Uhnnnnnnnnn bad cop... But how many of you guys haven't done something wrong and then tried to cover up? The difference being your life and of others aren't at stake in your job, so your blowups and coverups wouldn't be the same. But yes, let's judge and generalize the police.

How many of us have murdered someone and covered it up? Many people in communities had been complaining about cops doing it (not all cops, just bad ones). No one listens to them half the time because they are either poor and its their word against the cop. The cop not only planted evidence but they got caught lying about the whole case and he would've gotten away with it had a citizen not taken cameras. It must become manditory for all cops to wears cameras because of this now. The trust in this country is fading.

Next the South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police will stump for a law prosecuting those who record police, mark my words.

You see?  You couldn't miss the point more if you tried.

I'm saying that people are condemning all cops for the actions of a corrupt minority.  The police are accountable for their actions.  There are also outside agencies responsible for investigating departments.  This was murder.  Police are trained to shoot if their lives or others are in jeopardy.  That wasn't the case this time.

The thing I hate is how many on social media--and I guess, the eyes of the world--see the police in the United States as reckless and trigger happy because these are the stories that get headlines these days.  "Cops are bad."  It's not much different than saying "All white people are serial killers" or "All football players abuse women" or "All black people are rapists"  or "All women shoplift".  When people are afraid of the police, it makes it much more difficult for police to do their jobs.

Meanwhile, go to www.officer.com (I haven't been in months).  Look at all of the police officers who have died in the line of duty in the past week.  They don't get national coverage.

in 2014 127 officers died in the line of duty, 50 vehicle related, 49 gun related (2 "accidental", possibly ff?), 19 heart attacks,..

about 1100 people were killed by Police in the same time frame, unfortunately the site doesn't have a quick way to determine how, but at a quick glance I see more than 49 shootings

I think it's normal for media to pick up the later ~9 times more often and there have been shocking cases like this one that need to be covered. Ofcourse I would like to read about good police work aswell, which might not make the news anywhere near as often as it should.

Way to go overreaching.

What I said is that when people screw up they try to cover it and lie. Or you never done any of the two to protect yourself? As I Said the difference between your screw up and a policemam are quite different. And working under the stress is complex. I'm not defending the guy, but do you know all the circumstance? Do your work put your life at danger daily?

People say cops are trigger happy and profillers. But they are even quicker to judge, condemn and generalize.

About the statistics they don't tell the whole story, would anyone want Police to be killed 10x more than they kill? They are trained to come back alive and shot precisely, killing only if ultimatelly necessary (abuses and mistakes do happen).

About the cameras. Police would be sued all the time by tapping everyone. Besides that everyone is protected by law (police and criminal alike) from producing evidence against himself.

About coverage. Media want uproar and stand by the criminal. Besides that the left wing day job is to undermine the police, protect thuglife and blame the victm.

There was nothing that was being generalized, the cop was crooked, thats all (not all cops). He thought he would get away with planting the evidence on the kid. Cops are paid by taxpayers and are public servants. They should be held accountable by the people. Its sad you have to fear for your life just by holding a phone up in front of them. The kid who recorded them is remaining anonymous. Very wise. That cop just screwed all of the good cops because the mayor just ruled that all cops in the area have to use body cams. It will force cops to start thinking ahead of time about whether what they are doing is right or wrong. Before cams a cop could kill any man and it would be their word against theirs.
