Forums - Sony Discussion - If the PSvita is sonys last handheld, how long do you think will it survive?

Tagged games:

Do you think the vita could survive forever like 10 years? They might discontinie the hardware but retail and download games could come out forever, what do you think? how long will games come out?

And without a sucessor there is no finish line to stop devoloping games. I dont see sony making a new handhelds except when its a smartphone/handheld hybride with their own OS then maybe, but first they have to get rid of their android devision for that to happen.

opinions?

This needs a poll :p

My god a PS phone is a bad idea let alone their own OS. Such a tired debate

Until Nintendo's next handheld comes out and outspecs it.

My guess would be until Nintendo's next handheld launches (+- 1/2 years) because if the NX is just as powerful or more powerful than the Vita, then the developers would have even less reasons to develop for the Vita

And ipod phone wasnt a bad idea?

I have thought about this. I fear its gonna end this year to early next year. Japanese games are still beeing made, so Sony might keep it around while those exist and some indies. I dont see anymore first party support in sight though. Very sad.

Maybe Sony will surprises with some new announcements.

I think it will be around for a while in Japan but I can't see Sony wanting it to exist with such sluggish sales in the west.

No chance games will release for it forever.

I can't see Sony discontinuing it any time soon since they are making a profit from it still (I think). When they eventually do it should still see some game releases for a little while. I think even the PSP has had some releases in the last year or so. But after awhile that will dry up too. Handhelds only last so long, once they've been discontinued and there are no more to be sold the installbase will only go down as they break or as people just stop using them.

The neo geo survived 14 years, the atari 2600 something similiar but less. By survived i mean games

2016/2017 will be discontinued in the west, 2018 in Japan.
