 It really depends on which of the race theories you follow.   The old theory of 4 races suggests that South Americans are a mix of 1 to 3 of the 4 different races with the white race being the most common or propnounced in South America. The many race theory would suggest that most South Americans are not white.  This theory is followed by a lot of racists in America.  For example, they look down on hispanics from Mexico and call then Mexicans as if they are of a Mexican race.  I know Mexico is not part of South America but many racists in America consider anyone from South America to be a Mexican.  I am sorry, but many racists tend not to have the best use of critical thinking.  IMO, the evidence for races is not very strong and even if it was the 4 race theory makes more sense than the many race theory.  I consider most South Americans to be mostly like most North Americans. Both groups share similar ancestory- from European, African, and Asian decent (and Native American if you wish).

 But a racist doesn't blame their problems on someone else.  They look down on a whole group of people or race of people (collectively).
