I recommend that you wait for FFX to play the PS4, as it has the original soundtrack.

Xenoblade Chronicles if you play through it normally and aren't a completitionist takes almost 50 hours.
It is no doubt one of the best JRPGs of the last gen and yes, it is a very good idea to start it before XCX comes out just so you can get used to how the series is.

Xenoblade + Final Fantasy X.

Final Fantasy X! Also Xillia 2 because I assume you played Xillia.

Xenoblade, Tales of Symphonia or P3. Priority in that order.

50 hours is lowballing it. Non-completionist runs take a minimum of 70.

Yeah, one would have to really rush through the game to beat it in 50 hours, doing just enough side quests so that bosses aren't hard, but not doing to many that they slow down the pace of their game.

65-68 hours seems to be the average for a normal playthrough.

My favorite game on the list is FFX, so you can't really go wrong there.

Based on your descriptors, I would go with Persona 3 though. Which version would you be playing?

Only thing I recommend against is Tales of Symphonia and Star Ocean. I recently put Xillia 2 on hold for Symphonia and while Symphonia isn't awful, it's not a very good game.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

Tales of Symphonia! Great game, would definitely recommend!

The choices:
Star Ocean the Last Hope- I started this game back in like 09, but I quit after a few hours for some forgettable reason. It's been in my backlog for some time, but I just keep forgetting it.

This game was on my backlog since Jan 2012, after playing through it almost halfway, and stopping for no special reason.
I finally forced myself to play through it in January this year. And now I mostly wish I hadn't spent those 40+ extra hours on this game.
If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have wasted my time with this game, and spent that time on a more worthwhile game. It had some good parts, but they were heavily outweighed by the negatives.

As for your choices, Persona 3: FES is a great game. I like it a lot, about equally to P4.
FF 13: Lightning Returns I just finished a few days ago, but I wouldn't place it high on my recommendations. It has the time based NPC quest system that I liked in Majora's Mask, which helped make the world feel more alive. But I quickly gew bored of the battle system, and that's a shame because it's without a doubt the best one in the FFXIII series.
I'm about to pick up where I left off in tales of Graces F, and then possibly on to Xillia 1. Or play something like Yakuza 4 in between in case I get burned out on rpgs.

But basically, I'd say Persona 3 or Xillia 2.
If you go for P3, make sure it's the FES version.

How would I best play Persona 3? I have a PS4, PS3, Vita, and Vita TV. I want to be able to play the best version, on my TV, with either a Dual shock 4, or a PS3 controller. Any way I can play the game that satisfies those three conditions with the equipment stated above?

And thanks for heads up on Star Ocean.
