I'd actually be really happy

Looking to the worldwide sales, and the dominance route that PS4 is going, yeah i will not be surprised.

We will all be shocked because no other console in history has had those kinds of sales. 

And the current lineup of PS4 games simply can't validate that prediction. 

Maybe after E3 we could talk about 40 million possibly.

It could hit 50m by that time if Sony plays their cards right. And considering how rarely they've truly stumbled this gen, it seems likely.

Hmmm, that's seems like a stretch.

I have to totally agree.  When I saw the topic I thought the OP would have a lot of supporting data for their theory.  You know graphs and figures that show historical data and the PS4 sales based on that data.  Also show how the PS4 compares to the Wii at the same time and how much the PS4 is match or exceed current growth estimates.  Instead this turned out to be pretty much, My console of choice is selling great, let me throw out some outlandash number for shock and awe.

Actually, this is slowly moving into the realm of the guaranteed. The PS4 is getting a price cut this year. My guess is it may well be a full $100 to $299, at which point sales are going to explode. At the end of this year, sales will probably be around 35M, maybe more if the price cut has a HUGE affect. That puts it only 15M away from 50M. With the price cut in place for the whole year, plus UC4 (and any other exclusives Sony announces at E3) and Morpheus (if it is cheap enough), 50M is very doable by Sept 15.

On a related topic, I think the XBO will be ~24M and Wii U will be ~16M.

September 2016 will have been about 34 months of the system's life, it's already sold 20.2M in the 1st 15 months, leaving 29.8M to sell over the next 19 months, or an average of 1.568M a month, very easy IMO!

Considering that the 1st 15 months had the weakest library of exclusives and the highest price the system will ever have it's already achieved an average of 1.3466M a month over the last 15 months.
A price cut is highly likely this year.
PS4 has 17 outright exclusives in 2015, with Sony already confirming that they have more to announce for this year. GT7 is likely this year, on top of a new Killzone and probably a few others as well.

2016 will have Uncharted 4, Without Memory. The new God of War is likely for March, Guerrilla's new IP, probably a new Sly Cooper to release alongside a heavily marketed movie, plus loads of other surprises.
2015 is much better for exclusives than 2014, 2016 will probably destroy 2015.

50 million will be easy to achieve by September next year!

The 8th generation of consoles is a dud and the majority is flocking to Sony as a liferaft.
