Forums - Gaming Discussion - Quantum Break delay shows a clear problem in the industry

We've known about Quantum Break for a long time now, it was revealed way back when the Xbox One was an Always Online DRM box.

Now we all knew it was going to be delayed but it really makes you wonder whether Devs/Publishers announce release windows/dates for games they know full well wont make it.

I just don't see how you can reveal a game mid 2013 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPBrEd3Y0iM) Slated for a Holiday 2014 release, then a year later delay it to 2015 (http://uk.ign.com/articles/2014/05/29/quantum-break-release-date-slips-to-2015 ) and now almost ANOTHER year later delay it to 2016 (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-one-s-quantum-break-delayed/1100-6426350/ )

I have no problem with delays they're good, never release a broken game, but do not announce a release date that you know it's not going to make, unless you believe they're management is so poor they had no idea the game would be delayed by 5 Quarters.

When did MS announce a release date for QB though?

Blame it on The last Guardian. Anyways games take time to make, better this then in the days of the Atari when everyone was rushing to release games.

As stated in the OP I have no problem with delays, it's just rather annoying to announce a game for a release window you know it's not going to make.

The more complex games become, the harder it is to guesstimate a release window. Personally, I don't really pay much attention until a game is announced as gold.

This.

Can't remember them actually announcing a release date, it's mostly been just assumptions about when it will release.

They didn't have a release date, but they had a release window. Which is why in the OP i said date/window.

Games are generally announced too early, and that does often lead to delays and on some occasions a loss of hype and interest. But then again, first party games need to be announced reasonably early at the start of a console gen to help consoles differentiate themselves from the competition.

right its not theres been a game that was announced in 2009 that still hasnt come out yet which we still know very very little about

and as far as i know its only had this one delay.  it was only ever givien a 2015 release window

Appeal to worse problems is not a viable argument.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I thought it was said that the marketing group determine the launch date and its the devs that are racing to meet that deadline. Either way the delay isn't a bad thing. It gives the holiday season to Halo and QB gets their own spotlight later.
