I just want to point out that legal tobacco didn't stop UK (gibraltar) tobacco smugglers so I doubt that legal prostitution will stop the mafia.

And that mods didn't do their job

But that smuggled tobacco is still genuine tobacco not different than the one that can be bought legally elsewhere.

With prostitution, there will always be the "what if she/he is one of those that drugs clients and steals all my money, credit cards info, etc.?" or the "Does she have any STD?" that would make many clients to just go for a legal and "safe" prostitute.

But I agree that illegal prostitution wouldn't disappear overnight.

You can't legalize something and tax it too much. it will still leave a black market for goods at reduced prices since you wouldn't pay taxes. Legalizing it with a fair tax would help to elimate the profit to be gained by criminals.

It is legal here. But I personally don't think full legalisation is a good idea, mostly because for every person who decides they want to be a prostitute as their career there are 10 who get forced into it in one way or another. So I would rather that it not be criminal but that people who pay for prostitutes are fined a large sum of money if they are caught. The prostitute him/herself should not be fined.
