Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What could the NX be?

There is speculation about the NX being a new Nintendo console releasing in 2016 or 2017.
On the other side of the spectrum, some have even speculated that it may not even be a home console, it may in fact be a Handheld.
I would be doing an injustice if I did not mention the Fusion platform theory as being speculation also.

Any speculation on whether it is the Quality of Life platform is redundant. Nintendo has stated that it the NX is dedicated to gaming.

Moving on... what if (now this is a very big IF), what if the NX is something more in line with the Expansion Pack for the Nintendo 64? It is something to boost the Wii U's RAM or something to that effect to garner some more interest until they are satisfied with what the Wii U can offer and then they announce a new gaming platform.

I am probably wrong, but I do not think this theory has been addressed yet and if it has, I apologise. I could not find any theories on this.

Around the Network

I think it will either be a handheld or the fusion

This is probably the least viable idea out of all of them so far.

I think it is a handheld because there are a lot of signs that are pointing to it

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

I feel like they will probably announce their next handheld first and then the next console after.

So new handheld reveal in 2016 and new console reveal in 2017 is what i'm thinking.

A portable console.

Nintendo can barely (and by barely I mean not really) support the Wii U and 3DS as is.

The age of distinct/seperate Nintendo platforms is over.

NX will be multiple devices that shares games, OS, and even similar hardware like the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch.

And the portable NX will be the main part of the NX family.

A handheld is my guess

I actually agree with you. I just thought it was something interesting to ponder. Also with Nintendo, it almost seems like it is something they would do (release a Wii U expansion) as it does not really make sense.

I am actually on the handheld band wagon. I would be surprised if they released a home console before the next handheld due to the 3DS releasing before the Wii U.

Considering the state of the WiiU it is most likely a new home-console, but i am not willing to bet on it. There is a small chance that it is a handheld, a fusion-device or maybe even a PC

Well its just the whole, like how would they even do it? The n64 was designed so that you could easily do that Ram thing from the gecko but with the wiiU... Like, it doesn't really have any ports like that! So if they were to do it, they would like have to get a shit ton of stores world wide and I guess replace the insides of the wiiU with the NX thing but I can't even begin to tell you the issues that would have. So idk how would that really be possible from a consumer standpoint cause at least with the N64, anyone including a 5 year old could do it
