To be fair, it's mainly the disgruntled Nintendo fans that fuels this. Most average non-fanboy gamers are mildly upset but then go back to their other consoles.

I still see PC doom now and then, on youtube, other forums, there's even subtle doom here when you think about it, or at least negativity of it, it seems every gen PC gaming is somehow dying despite it being more profitable months back.
I don't think it;s completely gone away though, otherwise we wouldn't be seeing PC vs console threads, everyone would see the plus sides to PC's and build their own rigs if that were the case (pun intended).

It sometimes feels like the media is payed to do this by companies, but actually it's the people that comment and stuff.
I think negative news with Nintendo is slightly higher than the other 2.

According to the forums they are all doomed. 
Sony gets bad press all the time. Even when doing most things right. Nobody is safe! Afterall people were saying Naughty Dog was going to split up because they lost a couple members....

All company bad news when it's fresh gets spread and blown out of purportion, like Protendo mentioned, the shitstorm that was going down because a few people (including Amy Hennig) left Naughty Dog. Nintendo are targetted just as much as Sony and Microsoft. The internet over reacts to everything.
