Forums - Gaming Discussion - Bloodborne Didn’t Dominate Major Japanese Retailer’s Sales This Week, But PlayStation Games Still Ruled

The major Japanese retailer Tsutaya just released its weekly chart for the week between March 23rd and March 29th. Tsutaya’s charts are related only to the retailer itself, but they’re considered a quite good indicator of how the general Japanese market, due to the number of Tsutaya stores across the country.

This week was quite interesting, as it marked the debut of From Software’s PS4 exclusive Bloodborne. Surprisingly enough, it didn’t dominate as many (me included) expected:

  1. One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 – PS3
  2. Sword Art Online: Lost Song – PS Vita
  3. Bloodborne – PS4
  4. Sword Art Online: Lost Song – PS3
  5. One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 – PS Vita
  6. Theatrhythm: Dragon Quest – 3DS
  7. Pro Baseball Spirits 2015 – PS3
  8. One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 – PS4
  9. Pro Baseball Spirits 2015 – PS Vita
  10. Resident Evil: Revelations 2 – PS3
  11. Senran Kagura: Estival Versus – PS Vita
  12. Minecraft for PlayStation Vita – PS Vita
  13. Yakuza Zero – PS3
  14. Kuroko no Basket: Mirai e no Kizuna – 3DS
  15. Battlefield Hardline – PS4
  16. Disgaea 5 – PS4
  17. Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – PS Vita
  18. Battlefield Hardline – PS3
  19. Resident Evil: Revelations 2 – PS4
  20. Final Fantasy Type-0 HD – PS4

While Bloodborne did not come out on top, it definitely had some strong contenders in One Piece and Sword Art Online, which are part of two of the biggest anime franchises of the past few years.

That said, it’s also relevant to mention that the PS4’s installed base is much smaller than the PS3’s and the Vita’s, and PS4 gamers in Japan seem to be more inclined to purchase games digitally lately, and digital sales aren’t obviously counted by Tsutaya’s charts.

Incidentally, I haven’t seen Tsutaya’s chart so utterly ruled by PlayStation games in like… forever. 3DS games managed to grab only two spots in twenty.

We’ll get a more precise view of last week’s Japanese sales on Wednesday, when Media Create will reveal its top 20. Will Bloodborne make a comeback, or maybe it’ll still be overwhelmed by the Anime onslaught?

The PS5 Exists.

That is kind of dissapointing. I am sure most of us expected it to be number one in the charts :s.

Odd, didnt shu tweet out that BB soldout in many stores?

PS3 is still strong if not getting stronger

That's odd it sold like crazy in the West, I heard it was sold out in some stores in Tokio, perhaps under shipped for Japan. Nintendo is having trouble in it's home region only 2 games in the top 20 is bad.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Get out Tsutaya I'm going to ignore you, where's mediacreate.

I hoped it would have been number one, hopefully it had strong digital sales.

At the comg chart SAO had far more points (normal + limited edition combined), so I expected that to chart higher than BB. One Piece had less preorders, but it is very mainstream, so it seems normal people just pick it up when they see it at a shop instead of preordering it in droves.

anyways Bloodborne maybe hasnt dominated japan but it dominates germany, you have to pay at least preorder prices in order to get Bloodborne standard edition here from amazon now.
