Forums - Gaming Discussion - Would you buy a 9th or a 9.5th gen console???

Which one?

Generation 9 37 59.68%

Generation 9.5 25 40.32%

Total:62

If Nintendo makes the Fusion console, I might buy both handheld and home console. A good digital system (either Steam sales or a good subscription system) could help too.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Jump to 1080p? Nope. Except most of the PS4 games number of 1080p games are limited in this Gen. Be happy if you get 1440p next Gen with 60fps.

So the + console has no exclusive games that set it apart?

Definitely the cheaper regular one then. No reason to break the bank just for some barely noticeable pixel differences.

That is the question. The games are the same. But think ahead, in 3/4 years, 4k tvs will be mainstream, you can buy one for under 1000 dollars today. Between 2k and 4k in the same tv might not barely noticeable. Also, the + version could have also better lighting, AA, physics, textures, etc beyond the bump in the resolution and framerate, and i focused on those because of all the talk about it after this gen start.

But you answered the question and i thank you for it.

It was supposed to be... Don't you agree? It should be. But all the cry about expensive HW on the last gen, this gen we got again, bit under the suposed goal. If next gen does go with the same mentality we have today, yes, we will get under the goal, hardware again. That is why i start thinking in this hypothesis. And that is why i ask, would you pay more to have the goals and expectations met? Or would you go for the, some issues are fine, all i want is games?

I'd rather one version of the console. Two is kind of confusing for regular costumers TBH

why have to wait till 9th gen?

Sony and M$ might already prepare for a PS4+ and XBO+ since current gen can't even have both 1080p 60fps for most of AAA games...

at the same time to counter Nintendo up coming NX correct...??

Not every game truely needs 60 frames per second, and those that dont, can have that extra processing power go to something else.

I agree, nothing needs 60 frames per second... but it's desireable and something that would create a clearer distinction in generations.  When a new console comes out, I want to be wowed or I won't want to buy it.

There are games that require 60 frames per second.  I said not every game needs it, not that there's nothing that needs it.  Believe it, I wont play any game running 30 FPS that should be running 60.  Fighting games are a prime example.  When you've got attacks with 14, or 15 frame recovery, and attacks with 13 and 14 frame start up, you can't just round that stuff to the nearest number and drop it all down to 30 frames per second.

It's not about smoothness, but it directly effects how the game is played.

Some people can see and react to attacks at 19, or 20 frames, when the game is 60 FPS.  There's a bigger difference between 9 and 10 when running 30, versus 19, and 20 running 60 fps.  The difference between winning and losing.

But, if you're talking about a game like uncharted, or something... Sure, 60 frames isn't necessary.

I really doubt any console will be aiming at native 4K, let alone 4k@60fps.

What people tend to conveniently forget is that 720p to 1080p is 2.25x when it comes to pixels, and from 1080p to 4k UHD is 4x.

Unless some miracle happens with fab processes in the near future, I think best we can hope for is another 8-10x performance jump in the next gen, and that will most likely mean enough juice for anamorphic UHD (1920x2160), since IMO, that would make much more sense than 16:9 1440p or 1620p.

True... But ps4 and xbox one are out now, i was thinking more of a situation of choice at launch. I have a ps4 and buy a second one if its a plus version with better specs to run games better.

I'd rather stick with PC since this gen has shown me that it can't reach 1080p 60fps and maintain that standard let alone wow me with games to rush out and buy the platforms.

It'll be much cheaper for me in the coming years when it comes to 4k PC gaming than it will for 9th gen, 4k is currently expensive as hell but it will get cheaper down the line in PC gaming to a point where the enxt res will be on the horizon and being still another step ahead of 9th gen, it could be even more affordable earlier on than 4k was.

I don't do streaming either so if I had the choice I'd go with Nintendo for 9th gen depending on what they have by then.
