So Handheld Has No Future? GBA vs DS vs 3DS Analysis (Franchise Sales Comparison)

 

So there are some that think HHs have no future. Especially with the decline 3DS had from the DS. But looking at SW sales, it really doesn't look as bad. Hell even if HH declined again and sold lets say 30mil. (14mil in japan and 16mil WW), i think SW will still Shine! 

Why not test it out? For those that dont know, GBA is about 81mil (or slightly over), DS is about 155mil, and 3ds is about 50mil (and counting).

Discuss whether or not you believe Handhelds have no future, personally i think 3DS generation was the biggest hit and nothing in the near future will come close! Anywayzzz here is a list of comparisonssssss............

If the finest handheld that we'll ever see (Vita) can't do it. There is no future at all for any handheld that doesn't also let you send nude photos that delete after 60 seconds or whatever that Snapchat thing is.

Nintendo handhelds will have a future due to their IPs and how the 3ds will outsell the vita 6+:1 by the end of its life... Sony's handhelds on the other hand... Essh... They will be dead this gen with no signs of return and Nintendo can put another dead competitor on their list of handheld wins

Imo the 3DS was stuck in the shadow of the DS, they need to get rid of the dual screens and do something different.

I actually like the two screens.. Therefore, you can get the nice clampshell shape, unlike the PSVita, where you have to buy a case to prevent the screen from scratching.

Compare sales of hardware to determine future. I am not saying handhelds are dead, just saying the software means much less than hardware. SSBM sold more than SSB, but did the GC or N64 make more profit?

Depends on what that future is though.

Are we talking 70 million handhelds and no more erosion whatsoever?

60 million?

50 million?

40 million?

What would be considered rock bottom? I don't think we know where the bottom is yet.

Even just two years ago on this board people were saying "3DS will still sell 90, maybe even 100 million units", now we're pretty much all bracing for a 70 mill-ish finish.
