Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Cancelled ZombiU 2 would have introduced co-op

From here

The following details come an Unseen64 team member...

- ZombiU 2 was in development for a short period back in early 2013

- roughly 5-10 staffers worked on the project

- the game never left pre-production

- it didn't take long for the game to be cancelled

- explore a “run-down, zombie apocalypse setting”

- would have featured co-op

- one player would control the GamePad, while the other would use the Pro Controller

- players would get split up via multiple routes at points during the campaign

- this co-op would be local only

- more melee weapons were another desire of the team

Sounds like it would've been fun. Oh well.

Why didn't Nintendo just buy the IP? It was taylormade for the Wii U and the Gamepad, it wouldn't work in other systems, and if you take away the tablet controller, it would be undistinguishable in the sea of zombie games we have. I'm sure Ubisoft wouldn't have cared either.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Probably because despite VGC's likely massively overtracked total for it ... it really didn't sell that great.

I swear my Best Buy has a stack of like 20-30 copies of Zombi U from 2012 that they still mark down to $14.99 and people still won't buy them.

what about the multiplayer? I really enjoyed the king of zombies mode. they could have improved adding more players making 4 vs 1, it would be cool

The ip wasn't worth buying.

Even if Nintendo wanted their own zombie game they could have just made a brand new ip themselves and it may well have been better as well.

See that was why the franchise would have been worth a buy. I'm sure it would have been sold for peanuts and Nintendo could have done anything with it. Retro could have done something with it.

Hmm.. seems somewhat interesting..

Unless Nintendo just buys it to finish Zombie U2, I don't see the point anymore. Once the Wii U is out of the market, the only thing that distinguish this game, the Gamepad, will be gone. It wouldn't be any different that any other zombie game. I think the one in the wrong is Ubisoft, now it's stuck wit a franchise that won't fit anywhere else but the U, and they could have sold it and made a quick profit.
