I think it's time to face it guys: Nintendo has left their main console to die.

Even with the billions they made from the Wii/DS era, and after they saw that they couldn't develop HD games fast enough, they didn't do what was necessary to ensure that the Wii U had a steady flow of content. They should have done as Sony did with the PS3 and paid out the ass to save their reputation as a hardware manufacturer.

They should have paid for content. Plain and simple. GTA, Far Cry, Bioshock, all those big western games. But Iwata seems to be too much of a tightass to spend money on anything that Nintendo doesn't at least partially own. Does that make good business sense? Well Iwata is the businessman and I guess he thinks so, but as a customer I'm not confident enough in their next system to buy it. Sadly after the atrocious Wii and the abandonment of the potentially wonderful Wii U, I don't ever see myself buying another piece of Nintendo hardware.

The Zelda delay is the writing on the wall people. The Wii U is now officially doomed. I hope like hell that XCX and Splatoon are all they're cracked up to be, because they're the last major games we're going to see until the next system comes out.

I rag on Sony a lot, but what they did with the PS3 was glorious and I respect them for that, I wish Iwata had the cojones to do the same.

Peace

To any rational person it's fairly obvious the Wii U was going to be a "failed" console from a marketing/sales perspective for at least a year now.

So it's not like this is anything new.

That doesn't mean that you can't enjoy the games. I'm looking forward to Splatoon and Xenoblade X as much as any game this year and yes as much as Zelda. And shit a new Star Fox too.

I have sold my wii u before months. My opinion: A handful of games a year is not enough.

The next nintendo console can maybe play WiiU-games, i think.
That would be cool.

Hmmm I don't think GTA, Bioshock, Far Cry etc would sell much on the Wii U compared to the PS4/X1 really. Many gamers would simply buy a PS4/PC/X1 for those games unless Nintendo paid HUGEEEEEEEE money for complete exclusivity from which they would not recoup the cost. I do think there will be one or two more big titles(hopefully F Zero, Metroid and a true 3D Mario) before the Wii U ends but that will be it. It willgo down as the most barren software filled Nintendo home console to date. Even the Gamecube got 2 brand new Zelda titles, Metroid, F Zero, a true 3D Mario etc...

I have little interest in Wii U.
Tremendous interest and confidence in the NX.

Nintendo has wrapped their handheld division into their home console team. Next generation there will just be one platform, no independent handheld platform. They are teaming up with other companies, De.N.A. is going to specialize in putting together a wide reaching network that ties directly into Nintendo's upcoming platform. Already the NX is looking more interesting than Wii U ever did. PS4 is selling well, but that is only because Nintendo fucked up with the Wii U by making it tremendously underpowered and uninteresting. PS4 is just PS3+, it's an improved PS3, it is not taking things to the next level. Of all the companies, Nintendo is going to be the one to actually take consoles to the next level.

Lol there are a myriad of reasons why the PS4 is selling well. Nintendo stuffing up the Wii U is only one of them.

If Wii U is your primary system I'd agree with that.

But if its your secondary console, there's nothing wrong with it.

They could have done what was necessary at any time. They chose to let it die.

No they wouldn't sell particularly well compared to the other versions, but these are games that any console should have. It would have been an investment in their reputation rather than one that was to pay off immediately. Like Sony's many failed investments with the PS3. What is it? 6/10 make money for Sony? Or is it 4/10?
