Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintedo's playing down their strengths?

Nintendo just announced that at E3 they will only be talking about games launching in 2015. Surely I expect to be seeing new games released this year, however is Nintendo slowly down playing the Wii U in order to keep quiet to generate hype towards a new console? It wouldn't surprise me if they did a "Wii" like back in 2012 where they basically released nothing except a few smallers titles. Could Nintendo playing dead for a while in the console space be a good thing for their next console? Could a year off for home consoles be what Nintendo needs to assure that their next console won't suffer the same fate as the Wii U?

Nintendo know what they are doing. And despite all their faults, they are the best in the business.

Wait and see.

Worked out great for the Wii U which had abysmal droughts in its first year on the market.

Selling 50,000 Wii Us a week shows us that they do not know what they are doing at least some of the time. They are not gods.

"Despite their faults"

I think you missed that significant part in my statement buddy.

Nobody is a god. But Nintendo is the best in the business becaus the do the most important thing right: They make good games.

They do make great games, but to say they know what they are doing is a bit of a blanket statement. Just my opinion anyway.

It's an oddly constraining window. If they had done the same thing last year we would have had no Zelda, StarFox, Splatoon, Devil's Third, Kirby, Yoshi, Codename Steam, or MH4U shown at the conference. It would have just been Smash, Pokemon ORAS, Captain Toad, and Bayonetta.

Either they have something else up their sleeve or we're staring down the worst Nintendo E3 since 2008 coming up.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

They never said only... They said they will be highlighting games for this year but no where does it say that they wont be showing games for 2016. Stop jumping to conclusions

Most likely, they will be showing a few games for 2016, announce the nx handheld in 2016 and then announce the console in 2017

Well i Can support Shackkobe satement because Nintendo is still in business and not in danger of falling out, unlike other prolific companies like Sega, Capcom, etc. They been around for so long and still remain relevant, They don't have to be the #1 selling console every generation to be the best, they're a very respectable business that generation after generation create their own high quality games and publish them on their own hardware, not many can tote that accomplisment.

I wouldn't really say downplaying, but I think they want to avoid further frustrations with announcing games that are unsure of the release dates
