Recently, I've been playing a lot of Pokemon Shuffle for the 3DS. The game is very much inspired by smartphone games such as Candy Crush and has a free-to-play premise (I haven't spent a dime on anything as the game gives you currency to buy additional items/powers, although the option is there). I wouldn't say I'm necessarily addicted because I typically only play once or twice a day, but it has become a routine of sorts.

Of course, this is a casual game; alhough playing a casual game doesn't inherently make a 'hardcore' or normal gamer any more causal than if they were to play something like Dark Souls instead (at least, in my opinion). I think most of us play games such as these every once and a while, whether we care to admit it or not.

Do you play games other people consider casual? Are they your guilty pleasure or do you not have any shame in playing them?

I play "casual" games once a while but not very often, like maybe twice a week at best

I loved Brain Age on the DS. I remember thinking it looked stupid for a long time, only to be addicted to it when my mom (yeah I know) let me borrow her copy of it.

I also enjoyed Animal Crossing and Tomodachi Life, which I assume most people would call casual. I wouldn't really call these guilty pleasures any more than gaming in general. Though I also feel like casual/hardcore distinction is silly to begin with. Pretty much any game can be a hardcore game if you invest enough time into it.

you know, when you start to prefer "match 3" games over actually well crafted games it means you entered terminal stage of your gamer life and soon you will be a grown up that only cares about work, wife, kids, family dog, neighborhood meetings and apple pie

and yes, I'm kidding - or am I?

If I'm on the go, don't have my 3DS, and extremely bored, I'll probably play something casual on my phone.

Otherwise, I'm playing "hardcore" games all the time

I agree. I only use these labels because people kinda understand what I'm referring to.

I definitely think a game's mechanics and the amount of time you put into it are more determining factors than its appearances or the genre it belongs to.

I'll play anything fun.

I play a lot of league of legends...LIKE LOT, which compared to Dota 2, it's more streamlined and "casual."

Well I guess I play them every now and then. Not very often, but... GIVE ME ZELDA NINTENDO ahem, I'm a bit upset about some stuff, but back on topic, well, yeah. Sometimes. Fruit Ninja was really good.

*sprays with water* Bad! This is a Zelda-free zone!

Unless we're talking about the Zelda CD-i games. Those are definitely casual.
