Even though I know they are not masterpieces, I enjoy Mario Party games a lot. I played the N64 en GC games a lot, and still do, but Mario Party 8 was disapointment. I simply did not enjoy it as much as I'd hoped for. When 9 changed to the car mechanics I was of those who was very disapointed with it, and I didn't get the game. I definately understand the critisim the series received for this move.
When Mario Party 10 was announced I didn't like the car mechanic any better, but Bowser mode seemed cool the games looked fun so I regained my interest for the series. The mediocre reviews didn't put me of because all Mario Party games are rated low (except the firs 1 I think). And I really am pleasantly surprised!
The game uses the Wii remotes, but the minigames are much better designed than in mario party 8. The game looks pretty good as well, and the car mechanic is actually pretty fun. Games are faster, and there is still some strategy involved (although very simple). Luck is very important as well, as it should be in a party game, but skill in mini games definately gives you an advantage. Bowser party is just great. Playing as Bowser against your friends is great, but being on 'team mario' is also a lot of fun. The mode is tense, exciting, has a real sense of being chased, and involves lots of tricks for Bowser. Mini games make good use of the gamepas, and some other small features are fun as well. Playing mindgames as Bowser by drawing 'hints' on the gamepad, when the others have to choose between 2 onscured paths for example (lots of juvenile things were drawn of course).
Of course the game still has issues. Amiibo party is a bit lackluster and would have been better if the boards were more like the bigger classic boards. Bowser party good use a few extra minigames and I would have liked some extra boards. But I do consider it to be among the better Mario Party games, and I'm glad I gave it chance.
Anyone else liked the game? Or do you all still think it suck?
