Forums - Gaming Discussion - What if Nintendo repackages the Wii U? And goes back to the Wii remote...

I think Nintendo should ditch the Gamepad. It hasn't worked as well as they were hoping.

Why not go back to the Wii remote/nunchuk as standard, and rename the system "Wii HD". Like Gameboy was Gameboy Color. It was very easy to understand why it was new and an imporvement. Wii HD gets the job done. Of course, they'd have to port all the Wii U games to the new system, even though the hardware is basically the same.

The price could comfortably be lower than $250.

I mean, why not? They're calling the latest 3DS "New" after all. And look at the sales of the Wii U, they would lose nothing, I bet even the current users would understand.

They should have done that in 2010.

I don't think it really matters at this point. They just want to make a profit and satisfy their current install base to end this gen. Their next console will probably be completely different with a brand new name.

Really? Another thread like this? Ack. Enough already.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

nah, I think they should start with something fresh, a new start including brand name. The Wii brand will just keep hurting them.

Removing the gamepad is a bit late now. Can't do much about it especially with the games that use it (Nintendo Land, MP10, Hyrule Warriors, etc.) It'll cause too much problems and they'll have to fix up the games just to have it compatible without the gamepad.

Calling it the Wii HD is actually a really bad idea... Sure, they called it the new 3DS.. but not NDS HD. They can't bank on the 'Wii' name anymore. Changing the name wouldn't boost it in any way, but just cause further confusion.

Nintendo should just try pushing for as many sales as possible with the Wii U, which isn't going to be much left and is what they are already doing...
Then, start again with a new console.

Then people would buy more Wiis

I don't understand where the gamepad hate originates. The real issue is why those who don't like it just avoid it. There are many awesome gaming options apart from the Wii U so what holds one back from the awesome price of a $100 Wii? Seriously, who cares if the Wii U is selling poorly?

I don't think redesigning/repackaging the Wii U is necessarily a bad idea, but changing it back to the Wii and just slapping 'HD' on it isn't very smart. It would've been better to begin with, but now is not the time. They need to just grit their teeth and get through it. Recoup their losses and focus on profits as well as satisfying their consumers. All they can do, really.

Moving forward, they need to ditch the Wii name once and for all.

They should just ditch the wii brand. It may have had some value before the wiiU launched but now, its not a good brand at all

Most of the games don't even work with the Wiimote, dude.
