Forums - Politics Discussion - A Question about Benefits from The Veteran Affairs.

Some background info.

My girlfriend is half-American and half-Danish. Her mother meet her father during a trip to New York and got pregnant. She then returned home to Denmark to give birth. 3 months after she returned to New York and got marry to Glenn (my girlfriends father). They lived together in Harlem for 3 years, but after Glenn got very sick and began to show agressive behavior, she moved back to Denmarrk. Glenn died shortly after and was buried at the Long Island National Cemetary, he was an old Vietnam veteran.

Back in 2011 we went to visit his grave and pay our respect, I paid for the trip because she never could effort it, but always wanted to she his grave.

Present day.

A few days ago my girlfriends aunt called and asked, if she ever received any benefits from his death, She said no? then her aunt kept going on about something something veteran affairs something that she was entitled to??

My question to you guys, is my entitled to anything? :s

BUMP.

Anyone?

Get on the phone and talk to VA representatives. I'm pretty sure they can help you with any questions you have regarding VA benefits.
If Glenn wasn't active or reserve member of the military at the time of his death, there's not much material benefit for her.
Get on the phone or a chat window with them.

I think you are right :)

My girlfriend also didn't inherit anything from Glenn, which is find odd, he was still married to Pia (and was on good terms) and he loved Pearl, she was only 3 when he died. I find it odd, that when he died, both Pia and Pearl didn't receive anything. He was on a veteran pension up until his last breath.

Also, what are the rules for a veteran with a wife and child? Isn't there child support in US?

How old is your girlfriend?

There is Veteran benefits. She can enroll in VA Healthcare which is very good; she can receive GI Bill for her college or professional education.

She is over the age. But she should contact VA anyway.
