Forums - Sony Discussion - Prediction - Sony will sell Playstation before the end of this generation

Sony has been set on a path intent on increasing the value of the Playstation brand. Aside from creating services such as PS Now and PS Vue, the rebranding of old services such as Music unlimited and others with a new name including the PS brand, Sony wants to drive up the price as much as possible. Fattening the pig before the slaughter, so to speak. Seeing as how, despite its "success", it doesn't bring much in the way of profit to the company, they'll sell it when the price is right to fill some of their financial holes and pursue the few more profitable avenues they have instead of PS.

I don't see it happening.

If Sony sells Playstation that would mean Sony is completelybankrupt. And if that was the case, the future of Playstation would be the least of the problems that would cause.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

No, just no!!!

Wow this is the day of horrible predictions.
This is in fact the worst prediction of the gen so far.
Sony is trying to grow PS in order to help stimulate new businesses like Vue.
Selling off the brand makes zero sense.

Fattening the pig...smh.

According to that logic, then MS should be selling xbox any minute now, right?
Anyway, doesn't matter to me. So long as it stays the traditional course for playstation. Sony doesn't need ot be running it.

Highly doubt that. They'll probably sell their movie division before the PlayStation...

Why would Sony sale their saving grace, especially when it is kicking the competitor's ass, combined? They are expanding the shit out of PlayStation. You got the consoles, handhelds (not sure about the future of those however), the streaming service, TV service and other shtuff. If anything, they are doing everything possible to make PlayStation into an entertainment giant.

If Sony became insolvent, it would sell off everything but its entertainment and financial divisions. Among its entertainment divisions, SCE would likely be the last to go after their music and film production studios.

In the unlikely event that happened, Sony would become a primarily a content distribution company through its online services and its last remaining hardware; the Playstation.

Now that they are finally making money? I doubt it.

The Trademark Playstation is one of those few profitable avenues. It's a main pillar. They rather sell smartphone, optical, TV. Because in those departments the competition is plenty and strong and way ahead. In the console business, Sony is the king.
