If Spaltoon does becomes to Mario kart of shooters, I am going to buy this day one of my Wii U purchase.

Good to see them taking the game seriously. Well, at least talking the talk.

Hopefully they'll walk the walk and give it the push it needs. Very much looking forward to the game. ^_^

What would you consider being the push it needs? I doubt they advertise it on TV or anything so all I can think of is bundles.

I think a bundle with Splatoon and MK8 would be interesting.

Well that's what I was hoping for haha.

Even a game-specific Direct would be nice to get the core Nintendo fanbase on board (who are the ones supporting the Wii U anyways). Any sort of advertising is key at this point. I know they've already begun with in store advertising, which is good to see.

They should make a special amiibo for it that comes free with every pre-order. People who are crazy about amiibo might have more incentive to pick up the game early.

Nintendo already had the perfect IP for the shooter market that suited their image well but was still "cool"

Bond was perfect for Nintendo. Cool, but not grossly violent, it's still something a kid can play without his mom freaking out. After all his parents grew up on Bond too. And it crossed over big time in helping Nintendo sell to non-Nintendo fans. I know lots of people who bought an N64 for GoldenEye who couldn't have given a rats ass about Mario.

Yes, Splatoon looks like it will be the Mario Kart of shooters. Fun local and online multiplayer. But also Splatoon's single player looks great as well.

Reggie said Mario Kart in general, not 8 specifically.

Super Mario Kart took the racing genre and created a new (and successful) subgenre. Now he wants to start a unique direction for the shooter genre.

I wonder if Splatoon can do the same. I mean, Mario Kart championed a new subgenre, while Smash created a new genre all together. Aside from something like Portal, which championed the first person puzzle shooter sub-genre, I can't remember a game that had the same impact for shooters. Splatoon looks fun, but is it genre defining like Kart, Smash, and Portal? That remains to be seen.

I just wish, and still hope, that Nintendo will capitalize on local multiplater with a 4 player local mode of some kind. 1v1 isn't nearly enough, and this screams party game.

Nintendo doesn't own James Bond. In making the IP successful and popular they themselves likely drove up the price of it.

Emphasis on "was." No one cares about Goldeneye anymore, dude. If Nintendo had an exclusive Bond game releasing tomorrow, it would do exactly 0% for the Wii U. Bond was relevant when Doom and Wolfenstein were the biggest shooters on the block.

Except Bond is more popular as a character IP now than he was even in the 90s. Skyfall made more money than any Brosnan era Bond film.

Bond is time less. Bond is always cool. He's what every man wants to be and what every woman wants.

Nintendo quality Bond games with fun local multiplayer would've done great for Nintendo, obviously the brand declined after it left Nintendo, but that was to be expected.

Look at something like Batman ... a character with similar appeal to kids and adults, he's now a huge gaming IP but only because the new Batman games are of high quality. But people always liked the character.

Except it won't.

Good ive always said.that nintendo needs more new IPs to appeal to me since i dont really care about most of their old IPs that they use every gen, so seeing them focus so much on a new IP is really good, plus they have gotten some good third/second party exclusives this gen as well
