Um, I hate to be negative about this but, what exactly did Mario Kart 8 do for racing? I don't understand

Super Mario Kart ;)

However, I'm not really sure what it specifically "did" other than successfully link (and leverage for sales) an established IP into a completely different genre and not suck?

Battle Mode was awesome, but not really anything for "racing". Weapons? Might have been the first racer with weapons? I cba to research lol.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Good to see them taking the game seriously. Well, at least talking the talk.

Hopefully they'll walk the walk and give it the push it needs. Very much looking forward to the game. ^_^

What would you consider being the push it needs? I doubt they advertise it on TV or anything so all I can think of is bundles.

I think a bundle with Splatoon and MK8 would be interesting.

It made an otherwise "core" (not really, but close) genre into a fun and accessible one for all ages. Easy enough for casuals to play and deep enough for core gamers to obsess over.

I wish Nintendo all the best with this. Hoping Splatoon does well.

Well that's what I was hoping for haha.

Even a game-specific Direct would be nice to get the core Nintendo fanbase on board (who are the ones supporting the Wii U anyways). Any sort of advertising is key at this point. I know they've already begun with in store advertising, which is good to see.

To be honest though Mario Kart probably wouldn't sell half of what it does without the the Mario characters.

That said, good on Nintendo for trying a new IP.

I don't see it taking off in a huge way, but at least they're trying.

Ugh. Mario Kart is probably one of the worst Nintendo franchises out there, and the only thing it did for me was making me not want to play racing games. It overshadowed F-Zero, and that's a huge crime.

Seeing Reggie using Mario Kart as to excell Splatoon virtues only makes me more pessimistic about the later's destiny.

:o You don't like Mario Kart?

Bet Shiken that COD would outsell Battlefield in 2018. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8749702

Considering the sales of the Wii U, I don't think any game on the platform - including Splatoon - will be a major influence on the gaming industry in the same way that MK was.

No, not really. Never have been able to enjoy it.

Doubt this game could reach 1M but it is good to be positive, I guess..
