I guess it must have been because of its lunch box design and handle. :^ ) That ain't hip at all.

If the "hardcore" crowd isnt going to buy Nintendo hardware because of its shape then I'm pretty sure there is nothing Nintendo can do to win that crowd.

yeah, I'm kind of confused that the GC did bad. It actually has a lot going for it in terms of game, and it still did bad.

Sounds bad.

Don't want any surprises, don't want any gimmicks. Just give us a standard console with all the features people expect from consoles these days, great 3rd party support and plenty of good 1st party games. That's all you need to do Nintendo, please don't screw it up.

I like that Nintendo is always trying to come up with new things, I don't get why people want 3 nearly identical consoles, if u want something like PS4 or XB1........just get a PS4 or XB1, that's just my opinion tho.

i did get a ps4(/xbox) as did almost the entire console market.   nintendo values "surprise" more than "good" these days.  if nintendo finds a good idea that is different than sure bring it on but nintendo is trying to be different for the sake of being different right now.   ...but i won't be fooled by the "imagine the possiblities" tagline anyomore.  i fell for it with the wii and ps move (and kinect) but i won't do it again.  i have become bitter to poorly concieved, half-assed attempts at innovation,..  "bring the games that prove the hardware's need or fuck off" is my feelings these days.  i will not invest in promises.

There's no reason they couldn't have a solid base to work from that is similar to PS/Xbox as well as trying new and different things. Besides I think it should be the games that differentiate the consoles, not the hardware.

But what will being similar to PS/XB gain them? Third party games that won't sell? People seem to forget that Gamecube did have pretty solid 3rd party support while being powerful and cheap and that didn't do much for them.

The hardware is many times necessary to differentiate the games, things like DS & Wii wouldn't have been nearly as successful if they were just standard upgrades to GBA & GC.

By all means, I remember the Gamecube, and it's also worth noting that Nintendo skimped out on full sized-DVD support, HDD support, online support for more than 2 games, MC 251 as the lowest entry point memory card, an adequately equipped controller, and essentially fighting against HD output with the limited avaliability of the component cables, removal of the digital output port, out right removing progressive scan from PAL versions of Gamecube games.

Yes the architecture was still in line enough with the others to provide serviceable ports of 3rd party games, but in all honesty, that was about it as far as similarities to the PS2/OG Xbox went, every time I thought about getting a Gamecube back then, I was inevitably reminded of what it could not do vs the competition. And I know I'm not the only one who felt that way. It still remains that Nintendo has not kept up with the Jones', home console wise, since the SNES, where the games did make the difference, as a result of the resources Nintendo entertained back then.

This just sounds like Nintendo being Nintendo...

They have always tried to changed things up and innovate ways to play and interact with games. I agree with others who question why would you want yet another 3rd console that does the exact same thing? Nintendo always brings out unique and new things and helps shape our gaming future. Heck, nearly every console they released introduced something new: D-Pad, button layout, shoulder buttons, analog stick, rumble, motion controls, dual screens, 3D.

The Wii U will have a strong 2015 and I am sure they will introduce some nice surprises for 2016 (Metroid I am betting on), but 2017 will be when NX is released.

Only way they can surprise me is to actually make a next gen system with a regular controller...

I look forward to the next Nintendo console. I hope that it will also accept all the Wii U controllers.

Im not really sure where ur going with this, all I'm saying is making a Nintendo version of PS/XB isn't really going to do shit for Nintendo, that crowd is already more than happy with their choice, there is no need for 3 consoles with the same functions/games. Nintendo needs to continue bringing new experiences with their hardware/software, they have had a lot of success by doing that in the past, Wii U & 3DS didn't really offer much new in either area which is a big reason for their decline.

I agree with you 1000%.  I have a Wii U and an XBox 1.  I love the games that I play on both systems.  But, there are so many things about using the Gamepad that I prefer over the "just give me my standard controller" which make me thankful that a variety in gaming exists.  Just like I'm thankful that the Wii provided variety in gaming over the other 2 consoles last gen.  As a consumer, I appreciate the existence of choice over a set "standard" of "here's 3 different brands to choose from, but there's no real difference between any of them, enjoy".

I'll believe it when I see it

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

"However, if you only expand upon existing hardware, it’s dull"

Perhaps that sentence will put an end to the belief that the Wii U is part of the Nintendo's next big thing. Also; I still don't see any proper evidence that this isn't in fact a console, I still believe that this is the successor to the Wii U and 3DS all in one. I also still believe that it will be released in late 2016, it makes zero sense for a company like Nintendo, or anyone else for that matter, to spend this much time talking about something they'll release in 2-3 years or more, I'm not even sure that that has ever happened in consumer electronics.
They're also letting the recently announced mobile move and NX talk completely overshadow most 3DS and especially Wii U news; none of this is in any way compatible with a view where this is something introduced several years from now and where they intend to keep the 3DS, let alone the Wii U, as a contender on the market for very long.
