Both consoles are usually operating at their maximum and since you can't just make up random resolutions to fit the performance at some point there will be a tipping point.
Of course PS4 could've also gone with 720p but then the additional power would've been lost. So 900p with minor drops was the best compromise.

Well didn't Respawn make up that weird ass res with Titanfall? It was like 792p or something loll
But either ways, I do understand where you are coming from, its just I saw this in a few other games too so it was a bit odd to me

When the engine is custom, or new, its easier to aim for a custom resolution, but frost 3 is at least 2 years old, and there's already presets done. Easier to use those and try to minimize a few fps drops than build a new set of assets for a custom resolution just to eliminate drops that don't happen that often, DF said themselves.
