I was iffy on the game after the opening segmant (linear fights one after another) but once you finish it and go to your "base" I saw the light.
1. It has bird' eye view overworld with random encounters and chocobos. Their are dozens of towns, they resemble on the world map what they used to look like in FF 4.
2. Combat is not tradition as in NES and SNES, but it is very fun. The open field fights are great with no camera issues, fighting in tight cooridors requires getting used to it.
3. Each character is unique as has a specific skill set that works in different situations. You have 12 and they only gain exp in combat so you will learn to use them all. You fight with 3 at a time, if one gets KO'd you can bring in any other the other 9. It is game over if the 3 active are dead so you have to think quick in some cases.
4. I am playing on Officer (normal) and it is not hard. I do not recommend Cadet as it would be too easy. I have not tried Agito (hard) so no comment.
5. At 1st the graphics being dated bothered me (I had just been playing FF XV demo) but after an hour I did not even notice it.
6. If this game was directed by the guy who is now in charge of FF XV my hype has just gone up even more, he just "gets" Final Fantasy. It is my 1st Tabata directed game (did not have a PSP so never played Crisis Core).
Either way it is such a pleasent suprise. I literally jumped out of my chair and yelled "Fuck yes" when I walked out of the "base" to find myself in an old school overworld. I really had no idea what I was getting into with game. I wanted the demo and IGN, Gamespot, and Gametrailers all gave it an 8 which is a specacular score for a PSP port.
