The only AA which gives any noticeable quality increase for me is supersampling, and it's out of question now unless you have SLI or Titan X. Set 2xMSAA and don't bother.

my suggests turn off AA completely and use DSR.

isn't that pretty much the same as SSAA / FSAA though? just rendering the scene at a higher res and then downsampling it? I guess you are not limited to using powers of 2 with DSR

Indeed, but then, many games don't offer SSAA as an option, and it cannot be forced to use SSAA via nvidia control panel either.

@sterner -- i noticed that with witcher 2. when i turned ubersampling , the framerate and is usually is fun , but in in intensive fight scenes , you can feel the framerate drop. was wondering why as i thought 980 should be able to handle it fine.

Chazore i have checked a few videos and it close to 60fps but their cpu is lower then mine since i have a i7 5930k cpu . i mean if i can't see the difference, then no point sacrificing performance with a higher msaa like 8msaa lol. HOw do you check fps for crysis 3?

yeah I ended up sticking with 4x on TF.

I guess there's always fraps for an FPS check, I use Steam's FPS counter for all games on Steam to make sure I;m hitting the mark and for Titanfall I use Origins commands option for the game and input +cl_showfps 1 and +m_rawinput 1.

I dunno if the same would work for Crysis 3 though, could be worth a shot.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

I don't get this thread. Why are you asking US if YOU are able to see a difference? AA is purely cosmetical. Use the one that is most pleasing to your eyes. If you can't see the difference between two modes, choose the one that is less performance hungry. If you still see jaggies later in the game, choose a different mode until you don't see them anymore.
 It's really not rocket science.

And don't wonder why top of the line GPUs can't play all games at all settings in the most pleasing framerates. That's never going to happen unless you go SLI.

i can't see the difference between 4msaa and 8msaa.  I am noob when comes to pc graphical option. Wanted to know is there a difference and is it worth putting it on 8msaa. With 8MSAA i get an average of 50fps and with 4msaa i jsut checked i get pretyt much 60fps.  You have to remember console gamers dont have that option to tweak,as for us its put cd and enjoy the graphics that you have been given. Its nice to get a professional opinion , since there are alot people here who expert in pc gamer . As they say knowledge is power :)

With decent resoultions, AA isn't as big a factor as it used to be and is certainly not worth the loss in frame rates, in my personal opinion. I value performance over 100% smooth edges.
Besides; motion blur and other effects in modern games have further decreased the value of AA, especially on PC games.

Use SMAA for best bang-per-buck:

or if your setup allows for it super-sampling or downsampling for best quality.

i am only using a single 980 card. supersmapling would requried dual gpu as i have been told. Interesting pic you gave. so based on that 4smaa is equivalent to 8msaa with better performance?
