Souls games are Action RPGs and shields are not completly necesarry for that type of genre, the Tales of games are a perfect example of Action RPGs that (to my knowledge) have never even had shields.

I never said shields were necessary. However, in the Souls series shields added variety to the classes (different classes equipped different shields.) This is a loss of specialization that was previously present in Souls games, and it was replaced by nothing. Therefore the key element of an RPG (Role-playing) is reduced. I never said Bloodborne wasn't an Action RPG anyway. I said loss of RPG elements (not loss of all RPG elements.)

75. Simply because it has been done before.

.....

I hope you burn

OT: Also, Bloodborne will be attacked for being too hard... might even be lower, sticking with 89 though.

and i never said that you said such a thing, heck i didnt even mentioned you... im just saying that because the consensus on the internet about Bloodborne reviews is that the main reason that could affect its scores is that its different from previous entries for not having shields.

89, just for tradition's sake and to redeem Dark Souls II for breaking tradition.

Sorry, I assumed since the discussion was directed toward me specifically in regards to the shields thing that you were adding in.

I did.  Have you played the game?  Speed has nothing to do with whether or not it is an RPG.  Everything I said is still there.

I've played the Dark Soul's series and Demon's Souls. It is not only speed. Shields are missing, magic is missing, and additionally you have your weapons change mid-combat. It is obvious that this game is more of an Action game and less of an RPG (although still an Action RPG) You have less specialization before combat, and more versatility within combat. Classes are much less useful, seemingly. From the videos I've watched, all characters play similarly.

Seriously, here are the classes:

Standard Hunter - Saw Cleaver + Blunderbuss

Heavy Hunter - Hunter's Axe + Pistol

Sword & Heavy Attack Hunter - Kirkhammer + Blunderbuss

Agile Hunter - Warped Twinblades + Pistol.

In the soul's games you have ten classes, and magic ones are included. All classes played very differently, while here you have classes sharing the same secondary weapon type, of which there are two.

Guns are clearly replacing magic, and early players say throwable arcane weapons are basically a new form of magic too.  There are less weapons in general, but they are far more unique.

I do wish there were more weapons, but again this has no effect on whether or not it is an RPG.

91. But it can go below, like 85 or something... you never know.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

90, and waaaaaay less threads talking about how broken the review system is.
