Forums - Sales Discussion - Why do people want Last Gen to die now? Cross-Gen Multiplats sell better its a fact

Mr Puggsly said:

Well games are inherently scaleable.

For example, they could always lower the resolution or other visual effects to make them less demanding.

Its very diffuclt to scale back for ram which is one of the main areas this gen has improved on. It is also very hard to scale back for CPUs and the 360 CPU is weak, PS4,PS3, and XBOne are basically the same.

I do get what you are saying but cross gen titles absolutely hold current gen titles back in many (not all) games. With a game like Evolve it probably would not have made any difference

I'm thinking open world games, that use a lots more ram.

Again, those games use a lot of resources (including RAM) on the presentation.

Let me just end on this. Pretty much all 8th gen games can work on 7th gen consoles with scaled back visuals. Even the 8th gen exclusives. Simply because the specs are primarily used on presentation thus far.

Well there is more to games than the processor, which is why 360 ports were generally superior. Also, there are changes that can be made that make demand on processor lower without effecting the core gameplay.

Again, 8th gen games are primiarly just using the specs for superior presentation. The only game I've played on 8th gen that seems too demanding for 7th gen is Dead Rising 3. I can't recall seeing a 7th gen game quite like that.

XD "more to games than the processor". It is nearly impossible to lower CPU requirements of a game without completely changing gameplay. Have you looked at PC game system specs lately?

Minimum requirements for The Witcher 3. No way would that even dream of running on a 360

Double post. Edited this version.

I can see the value/logic of some games being ported to the old gen consoles. Especially since there's still plenty of holdouts on the old gen consoles. The companies are trying to maximize their sales and it doesn't hurt the games' level of quality. Old gen consoles are still selling. Why would a company cut support for a product that still sells.

There's a lot of impatience all around with the gaming consumers. Console gens last too long. Whining about about delays. Wanting constant updates on games in development. It not the end of the world.

It holds back the development of games and causes teams to have to work double time to make two versions of the same game. Tomb Raider 2 is being worked on by two different teams for last gen and current gen (Square said Tomb Raider 2 will not be affected by the lesser last gen port), and MKX ports to consoles got pushed back. Titanfall was being worked on by two teams. Its too costly and quite frankly it gimps the game. In the beginning of the generation its fine but after two years the chord has to be cut.

No, games can be scaled to be less CPU intensive without impacting core gameplay. No need to debate this.

I found this quote in regards to Witcher 3 on 7th gen. "It’s impossible. It would have to be a different game--a smaller game, not an open-world game, or with terrible loading times, with sacrifices in graphics," CEO Marcin Iwinski told MCV India.

Its certainly possible if they were willing to make huge scarifices in the graphics. Maybe it would have Witcher 1 quality visuals on 7th gen.

These are opinions, not really facts. Certainly not relevant to every game.

Multiplat games can create more profit, so it doesn't make sense to make  statement like they're too costly.

I think its getting time to cut the cord due the lackluster sales on 7th gen platforms. Not the reasons you feel.

Everything I said is based on an article i've read. I didnt have a problem with last gen ports until devs stressed the important of the current gen versions. I am also not talking about the profit because without the last gen consoles Tomb Raider 2 would've sold less than half of what Uncharted sold on one platform while being on five if the devs waited for next gen.

Crystal Dynamics stated that Tomb Raider 2 is being developed by a second team and that the integrity of the Xbox One version of the game will not be harmed : FACT

Mortal Kombat's last gen ports got pushed back: FACT

Titanfall was developed by a second team for the 360: FACT

I'm not stating the reasons based on my personal opinon, but rather from what i've gathered from devs. Personally I don't care unless the game is good. despite the profitability of launching on multiple consoles in a cross gen style it leaves the door open.

Not once did you see me write " I think", "I feel" or "in my opinion".  I would play Tomb Raider on the or Last of Us on the PS3 without a problem. I am just responding to what the developers seem to have come to the conclusion of based on how fans react and how development schedules and finances are concerned.
