Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What Nintendo should have done instead (in my opinion)

No, they shouldn't produce games for the Playstation/Xbox. No, not for mobile devices either. The best thing would probably be to create a PC platform like Steam, UPlay or Origin. Think about it. Pretty much everybody has a PC, which would allow them to have access to a wider audience. And the typical Nintendo games aren't in need of an insane graphic card either. Many people do not buy Nintendo games because they are on consoles which they don't want to spend 200-300$ on. But if they'd create this free PC platform the sales of their games would probably increase a lot.

Its not that simple. Most people don't use their Laptops for more then the internet and text documents. On top of that Nintendo puts strong emphasis on couch experiences like MArio Kart and Smash Bros. They could obviously find a decent size audience on PC but console would be a much better fit for them and their sales.

That is true, but the "couch experience" is close to death right now. Many people cry for more online support in Nintendo games as it's pretty rare to gather a group of friends and play some Mario Kart.

Nintendo games on PC may happen in a couple of years anyway at this rate.

let's face it.... nintendo's main target consumers are kids... and family....

imagine a 6 year old asking a gaming pc to his/her parents...

Mario Kart and Smash Bros aren't close to death though. I'm mean just look at all the top selling games on Wii U. The only incentive for them to go PC would be to avoid Royalties but consoles would much better serve their games and offer them far higher sales. Universally consoles seem the bigger market for console like experiences. PC wins with MMO's/RTS's etc and does well with western RPGs/Open world FPS but consoles are dominating that latter market lately as well. Start touching the likes of Assassins Creed, COD, blockbuster games, family games, kid games, its consolea all the way.

It just wouldn't make any sense for Nintendo to pick PC over console, their whole philosophy is at home with what consoles offer.

Playing mario with mouse and keyboard, that doesnt sound very promising imo

So... Instead of producing games on hardware they make whose marketshare is being disrupted by mobile platforms... They should produce games on other hardware that is being disrupted by mobile platforms?... Yeah... Seems like a great solution...

People are misunderstanding this whole Nintendo on mobile announcement. I keep reading comments where people are convinced that the next big Mario release will happen on mobile. Or that they will now all of a sudden get to play SMB64 on their tablet...

Nintendo stated that they are not porting titles and that anything that is being developed is to be optimized for mobile gaming....

"only new original games optimized for smart device functionality will be created, rather than porting games created specifically for the Wii U home console or the Nintendo 3DS portable system"

run away!

As long that Nintendo can profit on its hardware why leave that whole market?

Still I am thinking that this NX will be a tablet/phone like device that has a docking station for TV use. It will probably be supported along side the Wii U and 3DS at least.

I never thought that they would release major games for mobile devices. But these games will hurt their hardware sales as they take the attention from the consoles away. Also, the mobile gaming industry shouldn't be supported anyway. I'm tired of sucky F2P games.
