Because PS2 owned the US market so its still discerning that its successor had such a big drop, especially compared to its competitors the 360 and Wii
I have awesome memories 360's domination years in not only the US but the UK too. :) Great times spent on Live! Hopefully Xbox will see something like this again next gen.

My prediction threads:
Wii U will sell under 40m units (made on 14th September 2012)
PS Vita will sell under 20m units (made on 30th September 2012)

Kinect arrived in 2010. That doesn't explain why PS3 didn't do as great in NA as it did in Europe, Japan, and RoW.
