It is possible, but I really doubt that it can topple the PS4

"Don't have a chance" isn't relevant to what I said though. Because that's refering to being #1. Which is the exact opposite of my point. I'm talking about the number of sales they can generate with the amount of money they invested during the US holiday sales. Mainly in EU and UK. Where Xbox One is doing well overall, just not nearly as well as PS4. And obviously never will.
My point was why this focus on being #1 in the US, when you could possibly gain a bigger market share % in another region with that same effort?
Yes, USA is the biggest market. But there's also less room for growth there for the XBO than there is in EU. Chances are that most people who jumped in on the holiday sales were going to buy it anyway at some point.
We've seen UK especially respond well to XBO deals and bundles. But they never got anything near what US got during the holidays, where XBO was sold at a value of $150 in some places. ($450 for console + 5 free games + $50 gift card.) Why not spend at least a portion of that money there? They'll never know unless they try. And UK is a good market for them.

I doubt that a marginal increase in a few smaller markets will be worth a possible leadership role in the US. I mean it's pretty clear that by now they have already given up every other market except US and UK so even if they invest now it wouldn't make a difference.

Every small portion they spend on other markets can't be thrown at the US market. And by looks of it they need everything to stay competitive and achieve their goal.

Wouldn't it be awesome if X1 gets beaten by PS4 in the Halo month?

Of course not! Think of all the people who has a bet on X1 winning in the US!!!

i don't think any of their upcoming exclusive can safe XBO until Halo 5 and new Gears...

only more price cut and free games bundle were able to help for the time being...

I don't think they can. Like if they cut to 249 ps4 will cut to 299 and outsell it by even more. They won't cut to 199 because they lose billions if they do. March npd is going to be a big win for ps4 and so will batman and mgs months unless halo is in september. 299 ps4 expected this fall so the gap won't be narrowed much. 2016 will be ps4 domination with the games it has.

The xbox one lacks exclusives, i mean new IPs not just sequels of old series. And the price could be even smaller like 300$

I think Microsoft is no longer interested so for consoles. They said that that want to focus more on PC and other windows stuff in the next few years. Many players know this.

How will many players know what you think? Seriously, they even want to transport the Xbox name to PC. How anyone can get the idea they are no longer interested in consoles is beyond me.

Because they never really were interested in consoles.

The Xbox brand has some value with its strong identity to gaming, hence moving the brand to platforms that are actually strategically important (PC and mobile) is a good idea, and of course it removes the stink of GFWL. The brand has pretty much no value for other entertainment media, though if Xbox becomes the PC protal for all MS controlled online entertainment content then that can change with time, but only if the Xbox brand becomes uncoupled from gaming consoles.

The Xbox people in MS of course care a lot about the Xbox console, and at least some of the senior corporate folks do too, otherwise it would be dead already. But on the whole MS is not very interested in the console at all, with some people thinking it is a distraction that takes attention away from what is actually strategically important for the company.

OT. With the moving of Uncharted 4 to 2016, I think Xb one has a shot this year of taking the lead in the USA. But it will require a further price cut (because Sony will cut the price of PS4) and some aggressive bundling. Just releasing Halo 5 without taking any other action won't do it. Yes PS4 has other exclusives, but nothing with the marketability of Uncharted 4. And nothing much to grab the attention of 360 owners looking to get into the new generation this holidays and being open to consider all console options.

the Xbox One will most likely sell better in the US, but the PS4 will sell better in Japan/Europe. But overall sales will most likely go to PS4.

So, after trying almost everything, what can Microsoft really do to take command of the US market?  Or is it even possible?

Minecraft 2?
