There are too many microtransactions and i just seem to lose interest in most mobile games after like an hour or two of total gaming time.

But WHY do you loose interest after an hour or two? What is it with mobile games that's so boring after a while?

I don't know, they just can't hold my interest for some reason.

I do play a few "games" on mobile, but they tend to be puzzle/trivia games, since that's really the only thing that works for it IMO. They don't require precise controls, and touch screen only seems to be fine with those kinds of games. Waiting for "energy" to keep playing tends to be much more bearable for the trivia games, and some of the puzzle ones don't put that kind of restriction. Ads are always a problem, though. It's understandable why they do it (revenue), so I don't really complain about that.

If you want to approach the more "hardcore" side, I would say it's very unlikely you'll be able to pull it off. There are too many obstacles like the ones people mentioned here already. Plus, some "hardcore" gamers generally just don't game on mobile no matter what.

There was one,and only one, platformer I played through to completion on mobile. Can't think of the title off-hand, but it used old Gameboy looking graphics. Even though I would have preferred to control the movement myself, that wouldn't have worked for this game (which pushed you continually forward, so you had to negotiate all manner of obstacles). Controls were tight, but I still wished I had physical buttons. Also very few ads, or at least unobtrusive ads.

So it was an endless runner then? If you ever remember the name of the game, please send me a PM or write it on my wall or here =) thanks!

Nah, not an endless runner - you'd move forward til you hit a wall, then start running the opposite direction. The stages were almost like puzzles, and there were like 40-50 of em.

Edit: The game is Jack 'n Jill. I recommend it, was fun while it lasted!

Ace Attorney series on iPhone was fun, people tend to dislike it because they compare it to the original but i think visual novels have a lot of potential on mobile devices as long as the storyline is good and you can save anywhere any time so you can pause and resume freely.

It really depends on the games though. Most mobile games are bullcrap but some devs really put effort and creativity into them, like Cut the Rope which in my opinion is a fun game; it's simple, easy to understand, the levels are short but the game was challenging enough and kept refreshing itself with new mechanics on each update, so it really comes down to being original, creative and making your effing game look unique rather than making it look absolutely generic or a copy of something else.

The controls. Only so much you can do with touch screen. The best mobile games are the ones with simple controls like Angry Birds, word/trivia games, etc. Any game that tries to be a full on game like you'd play on the DS or PSP just turns out like shit.

Also I should mention, when I play mobile games, i'm just trying to kill a quick 5, 10, maybe 15 minutes like waiting at the doctor's office or some shit. Any longer and my battery is dead. And if I'm at home I'm not playing mobile games, I'm gonna be on my computer, or legit console...not my phone. So for me, the need for great mobile games you could play for hours just isn't there.

There are no buttons, it's as simple as that. If I want to use a touchscreen, then I have to put my fat thumb in the way of what I want to be looking at

It just can't work as well

Thanks everyone! This has helped me a lot! I'll re-read the thread several times I'm sure, and I might necro bump it (kinda like I just did ^^) if I have more questions. Thanks!

And if you wanna add something new, or wanna contribute for the first time, go right a head and do so!
