Forums - Gaming Discussion - Darksiders 2 coming to PS4!

A remastered edition of Darksiders II is in development for next-gen systems, its publisher Nordic Games has confirmed to GameSpot.

Retailer Amazon stirred rumours when it listed a PlayStation 4 edition of the game, carrying the price tag of $40, but pulled the listing hours later. However, a representative for Nordic Games has since told GameSpot that “the authenticity of the listing is unquestionable”, but added that it is not yet ready to discuss the project. An Xbox One edition is therefore likely but not yet confirmed.

Darksiders II was one of the final releases from the now-bankrupt publisher THQ, and was released to critical acclaim in August 2012. Upon its launch on PlayStation 3Xbox 360 and PC, GameSpot critic Kevin VanOrd wrote:

Later, a
Wii U version would ship in time for the console’s release in November 2012. Months later in January, however, THQ officially dissolved and its assets were auctioned off across the industry.“Darksiders II is remarkably well put together, particularly in light of its impressive scope. Bigger doesn't mean better, of course, but this isn't a "more of the same, just bigger" kind of sequel. The game uses its expansive geography to cultivate a poetic tempo in which your intellectual triumphs are rewarded with the immediate pleasures of fleet-footed platforming and demonic brutality.”

Nordic Games, a publisher headquartered in Austria, spent $4.9 million on a collection of THQ properties, including Darksiders, Red Faction, MX vs. ATV, Destroy all Humans!, Summoner, and Supreme Commander.

Lars Wingefors, the chief executive of Nordic Games, later revealed that THQ had spent roughly $50 million on developing the sequel, and suggested that no such investment would be repeated by his company.

Then, in May 2014, the creative director for Darksiders and Darksiders II hinted that the series may live on.

Answering questions from fans on his Facebook page, Joe Madureira told fans that Darksiders “is not dead!!! The new owner, Nordic, seems very committed to continuing the series.”

I - LOVED - this game. Loved the setting, loved the story, loved the lore, loved the gameplay... Had a blast playing through #1 and #2.  Seriously underrated game imho and I'm thrilled to see the latest release coming to next gen.  Honestly, this just gets me pumped with the idea that they're trying to capture the attention of gamers again to announce Darksiders 3 (which has not been confirmed to be in development following THQs closure). Any other fans of the series here?

I liked the first one more than the second, all the game breaking glitches really sucked my enjoyment out of the second one.  I literally got to a boss that I had to beat like 5 times before the cutscene that was supposed to commence after the boss fight actually happened.

10 copies sold incoming.

Well that's strange. I never had any problem beating either game, never saw any odd glitches either lol

As a character, War was way more badass. But Death seemed better fleshed out

Platinum'd the first on PS3, never played the sequel. Will pick it up on next gen. Hopefully Xbone.

Of course it is...

Such a great game, there's so much packed into it. They should have remastered the original as well.

I felt like one had way better supporting characters, I can't remember one good character in the second one that didn't originate from the first game.  Hell my favorite boss fight in the second game was against a certain demon returning from the first game.

I still need to get this for Wii U. Although I'd like to play Darksiders 1 before that. I have such an issue with playing games out of order.

The Darksiders games are basically the PS and XB's Zelda games, only darker and a bit more challenging. I think you'll love them. You'd be better off starting with the first to get familiar with the setting and characters, then play the sequel.

The original is super cheap on PSN as well. Was only £4 here in the UK when I bought it, only downside is the size, it's 10gb.
