Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What has happened to Zelda this generation?

By the end of this generation, Nintendo will have released at least 5 Zelda games on their platforms. Of these 5 games, 3 are remakes and another rehashes the overworld from A Link to the Past. What happened to this great franchise? The previous generation we had 4 entirely new Zelda games. No rehashing overworlds or remakes. Is Nintendo having trouble deciding where to take the Legend of Zelda next? BTW, I'm willing to pretend Hyrule Warriors doesn't exist if you promise to forget Link's Crossbow Training.

I see where you're coming from, but I don't think there's much to worry about.

EAD released one of the best Zelda games of all time in A Link Between Worlds in 2013. A new console Zelda, built from the ground up, is due by the end of 2015, only four years after the most recent console entry.

In addition, EAD has treated its fans to three "remasters" with new controls and content.

Overall, I think it's been a pretty good showing.

Sorry, I'd take remakes of the two of the best games ever over the Zelda DS games, as for consoles...
Since this is Nintendo's first HD Open world game, it will take a while. Also if you think ALBW is a rehash of ALTTP then TP is a rehash of OoT.

I would rather have A Link Between Worlds than games like Spirit Tracks so you may see it as a negative but I see that as a positive. And as for remakes, I don't really see the issue of remaking old Zelda games for those who havn't played it specially with noticeable graphical improvements which rewards the fans that already played it before and those remakes don't take much effort too make. And not to mention that Zelda U is looking to be the biggest entry in the series so it kinda makes sense as to why its taking so long

You aren't at least a little disappointed that they reused the overworld for ALBW? Also, I personally really enjoyed Phantom Hourglass. I felt like that game had a lot of really interesting side quests and activities outside of the traditional dungeons. I'm curious as well to how me saying ALBW rehashing the same world as ALttP would be akin to claiming TP rehashes OoT. What does TP reuse? The art style?

Well, I enjoyed ALBW far more than TP, for what that's worth. And I had never played any of the three games that were remade until they were released on the 3DS/Wii U, so I'm glad they did that.

Either way, I think Zelda U will more than make up for it and will blow away any Zelda game from last gen.

@Op

It just sounds like you dont like ALBW, even if it has alot of the same elements as ALttP the game is a new game and was highly praised.

That said there is 2 new LoZ this gen (1 HH/1 HC), thats already good considering there might be 1 more 3DS one.

Also HW was received well by the fans, its not aLoZ game of course but non the less a spin off is better than Nothing^

I actually liked spirit tracks, and phantom hourglass was okay aswell, but we dont see more of those. I think zelda franchise is doing good, and i like that they are not a new zelda game every year. WHen a new zelda game releases it feels like visiting a goold old friend you havent seen in a while, and everything is well ^^ lol. I also wish they didnt make the main pokemon games an annual franchise! They should make another franchise with the pokemon ip.

Considering the quality of their recent entries, I'm fine with them sticking to remakes.

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

maybe they're too busy developing zelda wii u... and ALBW is an amazing game.
