"if a man is comfortable playing colorful and child-like games, he is not insecure in his masculinity because he doesn't give a shit"

true, however, he may be unjustifiably secure in his masculinity... there is another side to this that you are not considering

LOL.

i'm tired of this "anyone who doesn't play nintendo games is insecure about their masculinity" conspiracy. it's old now.

OT: no, there is zero chance of this happening.

Nice.

But really, it's not just Nintendo games. You won't see a casual CoD player going around trying out LittleBigPlanet or Ori & The Blind Forest, and there's a reason for that. Many gamers are very insecure about what they play and how people perceive them, and they think that they will be accepted as long as they play generic kill sprees.

I think you are just making things up. People often have very varied likes for very different  types of things like  movies, music, games, women, tits, and ass. You might like a small ass on this cute girl, while still being able to enjoy the much fuller, grabbable ass of another fine girl. You are catoragorizing, and stereotyping too much here.

LOL @ the people who think it will.

nobody truly thinks that. I have yet to seen anyone explain why.

Look at the poll.

If they already got a Wii U they might give it a try (while claiming it's for their little sister), but it won't make them buy a Wii U.

no voice chat alone says no.

There is a lot of stigma in gaming for sure; every sunday I take the kids at work to an internet cafe where we play games together for a few hours. The place is almost always at least half full and there are many kids there, the youngest ones play Call of Duty while the ones from ages 16 and up usually play Counterstrike, Battlefield, League of Legends, Heroes of the Storm or Starcraft, almost all games that require actual thought and tactics, I find this very interesting. The average CoD player is probably in the 12-20 age group, so I agree that many would be opposed to the idea of a "cartoony" game.

Which is a shame for them, many great games are cartoony or goofy in their visual style, Timesplitters series, Team Fortress 2 and Borderlands series, as mentioned, all qualify for this. I think the main problem for a game like Splatoon is that it doesn't have that immediate and obvious hook that games like CoD does; they have grand displays of epic explosions, hardcore music and fast-paced action gameplay and so it is made to be showcased and forever remain shallow.

Exactly. This is all that I am saying. Stigmas have plagued the gaming culture, and while I think it's getting better over time, this isn't the way it used to be. Cartoony games used to be the norm and people weren't judged for playing them, but now they've lost their appeal in many ways. Mostly due to the younger generation gravitating towards "hardcore" and "mature" experiences.

While those games are cartoony in their own right, I wouldn't say they're full cartoon. They're like a mix of realism and cartoony features, sort of like Zelda U's style. And yeah, I agree. Splatoon isn't as obvious as CoD is, so I feel that it's not really something that appeals to casual players, but rather its own niche.

the younnger generation has always gravitated towards "mature" games, the only difference is now they have a MUCH wider variety of said games. Look how popular Mortal Kombat was when it first came out. Cartoony games ruled the market casue thats pretty much all that was being made for the most part, alot of me too Mario mascot games and i dont know where you are from but people were definately judged for playing those games, past a certain age the words geek and nerd were thrown around for anyone who played video games past a certain age. Stuff like GTA changed all that.

i am and its overwelhmingly favoring "no" and the few people that have said yes havent explained why, so that leads me to believe deep down inside they dont really believe that but just putting yes out of bias
