Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So kirby flopped...

I'm not sure I'd call it a flop yet. Like Captain Toad, I think Kirby was another budget title that didn't really cost much to make in the first place. Unlike Captain Toad however, Kirby didn't have the benefit of releasing during the holiday season, so its sales aren't going to be as impressive. As long as it has legs though, I think it should do fine.

I think the gameplay just fits better on a portable than on a home console - where you just want to look at the screen.

it doesn't have guns

Btw the numbers are really shocking. I expected it to do better. As users are suggesting it as indie game I disagree in this regard. Price of the game doesn't justify it as indie game. It's not commercially successful. They should have released something like Kirby triple deluxe for the home console version.

For myself too many games not enough time

I bought it. It is far better than what many seem to think it is on this topic. It is fairly easy but does have its challenging parts as well.
The graphics are superb. It friggen looks like a clay motion capture game.
One this it is not, is a normal Kirby game. There is no sucking up of anything, no spitting it out and there is no stealing abilities. It is almost a puzzle platformer, but at the same time it's not at all.
The game would actually feel a bit more akin to a sonic game except it tends to be slower, due to the control scheme I would guess. Even with its speed there are times yoou are drawing lines like a madman to get the last piece of fruit, or defeat a boss.
There isn't a whole lot in the way of enemies that will our right attack you, but again it is more about the control scheme.

Pros: superb graphics. Nice pick up and play game for smaller or larger parts of time. It's ridiculously cute. Interesting control scheme. Price is good.

Cons: the controls cause the kirby player to be looking at the gamepad all the time. The game doesn't look quite as good on the gamepad due to the lack of HD. Some levels, especially at the beginning are very simplistic. Reuse of bosses.

Comments: the price is fairly fitting of the game. If it were any more, the value would not be there.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

It seems i'm not the only one who finds Kirby's pink tender flesh and tongue action a little... deprave.

Juging by your profile pic though it would seem this game was kinda filler until splatoon is released ;---p splatoon is day 1 though!

Would a traditional Kirby sold more than this spin off? Sure! But even Triple Deluxe FW only did 15k better and that was on 3DS^

That said i agree with your post. (aside from doing better, i knew it wouldn't be higher than 30k :)

The launch to many Kirby games imo. Also Kirby is now knowed to many as a baby franchise, not because of the cute cudly character but because of how easy those games are now a days. Ppl tend to think that ppl who buy wiiUs are mainly young children but I believe that is false, obviously there is alot of kids, but kids want ps4s just as much if not more, the WiiU audience are mainly older ppl that wants a piece of their childhood back by playing Nintendo game, so these ppl are not interested by over simplified Kirby games.

Wouldnt necessarily agree though.. People have no qualms about enjoying nintendo games these days, on handhelds... People often praise pokemon as their guilty pleasure, often do comical references to mario... And being a zelda fan isnt seen as kiddy or the likes... I even talked to a friend who said he actively plays mario kart 64 still, although not having any 8th gen console. And he asked me if mario kart 8 was any good. And people openly admit to liking disney, cartoons and super heroes.

nintendo is just playing it safe with these indie-ish releases... Low-budget, no risk, no reward... Its like they are happy being seen as a developer of budget titles, when their competitors are doing far more to get attention.   3d games takes a lot more resources, and ps/xbox release those games in droves, without advertising them to death or doing (one game a month stratehy to increase sales) that nintendo seems to be fond of.
