Forums - Gaming Discussion - NPD Just Died On GAF

That's sad, she was also a good poster besides the leaks. And it means that VGC US numbers will get more and more inaccurate over time...

I'm positively surprised that she wasn't fired. It was probably close.

We're at a point that we have daily numbers for the film industry in great sites like BoxOfficeMojo, and weekly numbers for Japanese gaming sales from Famitsu and Media Create. Heck, we even have weekly listings of many European markets (while not providing exact numbers, they are invaluable nonetheless). It's sad to see the North American numbers being taken hostage like this, forcing folks to pay large sums of money to get information like that.

We're at a time where VGChartz has the opportunity to become more and more relevant in this market, and I hope that ioi sees this opportunity and takes it.

This is so true.

At least we have weekly software from UK ChartTrack which can give us good sense of the US market, with some allowance for regional taste (FIFA vs. Madden and NBA).

Sadly, VGC software tracking seems very off, but hopefully those SuperData guys will start giving digital sales regularly like they did for January.

To be honest though having the leaks through the same leakers was always going to be an easy way for NPD to target someone. Should've been a little smarter and used different usernames or given out info in PMs to other posters to leak. Anyways f*ck the NPD. The fact that we can't get reliable, accurate tracking of Western sales is ridiculous. The movie, TV, and music industry have it, video game sales should be transparent and open too.

I find it both surprising and curious that data tracking in the US is apparently both so limited in demand that the NPD is the only reliable source of information, yet so valuable that NPD gets away with charging what I'm told is an arm and a leg for its data. I would figure the latter would draw at least one competitor, but so far that doesn't seem to be the case.

Chase isn't that great of a company to work for. I'd have taken a different job (like I did when I worked at Chase, and then left).

The end of an era. Tracking sites just don't cut it. Sucks there's no competition to NPD that would make these sales numbers transparent. Maybe we could crowdfund such a service

No just the attention whores died.

Leaking info is easy with no possibility of it being traced, some jut need their ass kissed for it and pay the price.

Well that's a damn shame. Very disappointing to see NPD act this way.

Good riddance. Long live VGC!

The US government should bring in legislation meaning this info should be made public.
