QTE's done right can work very well, I thought they did their job in Resident Evil 4, for instance. The problem is that a lot of games go way overboard with them and replace actual, true interaction as a cheap means of saving time and money. A lot of QTE's simply seem misplaced.

Theres very few cases I know of where "true interaction" could produce the same results as QTE. QTE's most of the time come with unique animations and scenes that cant be done with "true interaction".... even if you had an advanced controller like the PS Move, or kinect working at 100% of its theorised potential.

At the end of the day, gaming is about pressing a button and expecting an action... theres always a limit to the range of actions you can expect a gamer to be able to cope with to progress the story the way the developers intended it, unless you bring in QTE.
