Forums - General Discussion - Please Convince Me The Earth Is Moving And Not At The Center Of The Universe

Or think about this... Felix Baumgartner on his world record free-fall jump reached 38,969m altitude and spent 2 and a half hours ascending, 4:19 minutes falling to the ground, and 7 minutes parachuting the rest of the way down. His distance from launch: 70.5k or 43.8 miles. How come he didn't land in the Pacific Ocean if the Earth was rotating West to East beneath him at such speed?

You can't use the atmosphere rotates with the earth argument because at that height there is only 1% of surface air density. At what height would Felix have experienced the Earth rotating below him? 50km? 70km? 100km?

At what height does one have to be to have the Earth move beneath you?

Or you could simplify things, go one step further and just ask why people don't die from deceleration when they jump.

It's because because god in his (or her) infinite mercifulness decided to not apply any force in the theta and phi coordinates.

I can't wait for your "The earth is flat" thread.

Would fap anyway. She's hot enough for me.

I am a Christian. You're interpretting things the way you want to, and they are wrong. Everyone still calls it "sunset" and "sunrise" even though (nearly) everyone knows that the Earth rotates around the sun, and not the other way around. We say that because from our perspective it looks that way, not because that's what is actually happening. Your first Psalms references aren't even literally saying that the Earth is unmoving.

Psalms 96:7-10

7 Give to the LORD, you families of nations,

give to the LORD glory and might;

8 give to the LORD the glory due his name!

Bring gifts and enter his courts;

9 bow down to the LORD, splendid in holiness.

Tremble before him, all the earth;

10 declare among the nations: The LORD is king.

The world will surely stand fast, never to be shaken.

He rules the peoples with fairness

Stop taking the Bible versus out of context to try to "prove" your point.

How do you explain Joshua's long day? Do you actually believe God stopped the spinning of the Earth which would cause tidal waves and tsunamis?

God can do anything He wants. He could have stopped the Earth from spinning, and done so without harming the Earth. As a believer you should know that he has the power to do this. He could have also moved the entire universe to match the Earth. He could have also frozen time for the Earth. We can't know how He does what He does, but only that He does them. You can't believe in an entity with unlimited power, and then refuse to believe that He has the power to do something that you perceive to be impossible.

Or the Bible reads what it means and means what it says that God stopped the Sun. I'm going to stick with that.

I'm curious, do you think a global flood was literal? Sodom and Gomorrah was literal? Do you believe God created the heavens and the Earth in the beginning as literal?

And by the way, the geocentric view, I believe,  was believed by the ancient Jews.

Ok here's a simple one. Do you believe in gravity? or at least believe it exists.

If you do then you will. believe it's what keeps us all grounded here on it and what keeps the mean in orbit around the earth. To believe that the earth is stationary and all the planets and even the sun and moon orbits around the earth, would be to not believe in gravity.

tldr

Just saying, science also proves otherwise.... that the Earth rotates around the sun.

I was waiting for bible quotes and I got them in the second post. I suppose you believe the Earth is 5000 years old too.

cant be bothered reading that all buy has op explained sunrise and sunset yet?

The Geocentric model explains sunrise and sunset. The Sun revolves around the Earth just as it appears.

Scientific experiments have shown that the Earth was motionless. This is the achilles heel for heliocentricism.

1. Michelson-Morley Experiment "Proves" Earth at Rest! http://youtu.be/CUdaTH3T3Ok

2. Airy's "Failure" was that to observe a particular star he did NOT have to increase the tilt of his telescope when he filled it with water. This animation demonstrates what happens, proves that the Earth is stationary and therefore at the centre of the universe - as the Bible maintains. http://youtu.be/87M2i61N1cU

3. The Michelson-Gale experiment was able to measure the movement of the aether/firmament around the Earth accurate to within 2%.

4. The Sagnac experiment http://youtu.be/SWmlimH7laY " The Sagnac experiment (Reference - Comptes Rendus 1913 v157 p 708-710 and 1410-3) Sagnac rotated a table complete with light and mirrors with the light being passed in opposite directions around the table between the mirrors. He detected the movement of the table by the movement of the interference fringes on the target where they were recombined. This proved that there IS an aether that the light has to pass through and this completely destroys Einstein's theory of Relativity that says there is no aether. It is for this reason that this experiment is completely ignored by scientists. More recently Kantor has found the same result with similar apparatus."

Geocentrism wins! But you won't hear about all this because of the philosophical implications that the Earth is at the center of the universe.

As I understand it, the Earth is actually the centre of the universe.... it's just that the rest of the universe is also the centre.
