Note, this is not a complaint about the slowness of sales data goming out, it is a plea for some explanation to be provided so that we can understand why the pattern of release of sales data has become more erratic.
For pretty much the whole of the 7th generation weekly sales data was published within 10 days of the close of the sales week, with very few exceptions. At the start of this generation this pattern was mostly also followed. But as everyone knows since late last year the pattern of release of sales data has commonly been 10-20 days after the close of the sales week. But also, after some particularly long intervals we get 2 week's of data in close succession.
Without asking anyone to reveal proprietary information, what has changed that has caused these long intervals and erratic patterns? Is this likely to be the long term pattern of sales data release? Is there a formal policy of not releasing the final week's sales data for the NPD month until after NPD? Given NPD is an important calibrator for the US sales numbers this is understandable, but it would be good to have data publication policies announced so that we know what to expect.
I am not asking that VGChartz improves its perfomance, I am just asking to be more well informed about what has changed in recent months, whether that is a long term change, and what to expect from here on out.
