Market perception. People see the same price no matter what. This isn't 40 years we're talking about where a loaf of bread was 25 cents. No, it sold so well becasue the price was rigth from the start. A decade ago people were not paying $800 for a cell phone 500 for a tablet. Consumers are better conditioned to pay more now then ever, especially a product like a game console that lasts for years and is not constantly being replaced by new hardware.

99.99 is even more attractive lol.

I think that it has the most potential. The PS4 has Playstation Vue and Project Morpheus going for it in the near future and we really don't know how big of a deal they could be. It's already the number one console this gen and both Vue and Morpheus have the ability to draw in casuals by the millions. Hell, it only needs Morpheus to take off in china and it's a done deal.

If the PS4 continues like this, it will outsell the original PS1 by a mile. The original PS1 was discontinued in March 2006 and was widely released worldwide in by 1995(Japan got it in 1994) giving it an insane 11 years(132 months) on the market to reach 102 million units.

The PS4 has sold roughly 1/5th(20 million) of that amount in just 16 months

20 million X 8.25(132 months divided by 16) =

165 million

Now I'm not saying the PS4 will reach 165 million given the change in the marketplace and it probably not having an 11 year cycle but it will EASILY destroy the PS1 lifetime sales.
