Nice thread, Augen.

I live a few miles away from where the Chicago Fire play so I guess you could say that I am a supporter. I'm holding out hope that they can squeak into the playoffs, but your 8th place finish is probably pretty accurate. Also, I hope that they don't get embarrassed tonight in Spanish... Maybe they can do what they do best a get a draw.

I've traveled there to see United play there, nice stadium, but location is an issue.

I think Chicago could be a dark horse, if Magee is healthy and the signings pay off they could be in the middle of the pack.  I just don't know enough about the guys they brought in to rate them very well.

Here is a video previewing thier 2015 season.

Also, game tonight can be watched in Spanish or English as they now offer an English option if you'd like.

I'm excited for the new season!!!
:)
does anyone know if there is a FIFA that allows you to go through a regular season of MLS?
I own FIFA 13...there doesnt seem to be an option for an MLS season
:(

I always play MLS in FIFA, but I think I do manager, franchise, or player mode over seasons. Not sure about a single season campaign.

In any event, here's a nice bit of data on FIFA and in part relating to MLS.

Do you ever reckon Football will overtake hand-egg as the most popular sport in America (I refuse to call Hand-egg football).

In the US there are the 'Big 4' professional sports leagues -- NFL (football), MLB (baseball), NBA (basketball), and NHL (hockey). TV ratings of MLS are very poor and as recently as 2013 trailed the Women's NBA. But MLS (18,807) only trials the NFL (64,698) and MLB (30,895) in average attendance, so fans show up for games (this info is a couple years old). The future looks bright for TV ratings as a Nielsen study shows that 52% of the biggest MLS fans fall between the ages of 18-34.

I myself am trying to get into soccer (I played it when I was younger, but never followed it professionally) and I'm not the only one doing so with MLS rapidly expanding into new markets.

Got the TV ratings info from here...

MLS has surpassed NHL. NHL is only popular in one portion of the country and Canada.

Augen, you should really link the SB Nation preview article for the season and each team. Let me go find it.

Thanks, updated the OP with great link for folks.

I think Houston are interesting with manager turnover and shifting conferences.  Big thing is impact Torres can make up top this summer.

Poor NHL

I don't want this to be any sort of "my sport or league is better than yours" thread.  The NHLis still much bigger in aboot any metric, its main issue is has some real poor clubs dragging the rest down.  NHL could be a very strong 24 club league, places like Arizona and Florida were just bad ideas.

Addition by subtraction, much like Chivas!

A lot of people stopped watching Houston half way through the year. They got Beasley and Garrido which really made them far more competitive (and actually threatened a bit for a playoff spot). Giles Barnes is a boss and him + Cubo will be deadly. That also made a couple of other moves (Rodriguez from Espanyol and Miranda from Argentina) that will be instant contributors.

Exactly. Chivas was dead weight and losing them means losing a money pit and frankly an embarassing club avaeraging 5K a game.  This year the league as a whole should crack the 20K barrier for average attendance. Beyond that is very hard as so many clubs play in 15K-25K stadiums.

Interesting facebook fan map of clubs in US and Canada. Can see how Los Angeles is big club among neutrals, but with Orlando and Atlanta (2017) coming into the league map should shift in coming years.
