DQXI should be multiplatform. Is there any particular reason why a home console DQ would need to be exclusive other than that someone is willing to put money in a hat for them? I expect Wii U and PS4 to have similar install bases in Japan, which means there's a good case to be made for taking DQ multiplatform.

Because they want to focus on one console? The Wii U and PS4 have completely different architectures and it's not like we're seeing my Japanese devs make games multiplatform games for PS4 and Wii U, so why would DQXI. Also being exclusive does have its own benefits.

Sure, that presents it's chellenges, but it's probably less of a challenge than PS3 vs. 360. The main technical block is the gamepad. I'm sure Nintendo would want more use of the game pad than main menu navigation. There are benefits to being exclusive. But not many that don't involve money changing hands, when stacked up against the much greater profits that would come from being multiplatform.

I can see three main reasons that would, imo, drive to this scenario:

1º - Japanese appeal: Dragon quest sells mainly in japan and Xone is selling really bad over there with not much run for improvement. That would be one reason to not release the game on that machine.

2º - Demographic: Outside japan, people who play japanese games tend to buy Playstation over xbox and that reflect in huge sales discrepancies(see Type-0 at amazon). This is nothing new,we saw that happening last gen.Basically,if you like japanese games, chances are you have/will have a playstation.

3º - Power: Assuming that SE is targeting next gen graphics with DQ11,release on WiiU may not be possible.

All that could be true, but I don't think Square really cares for the Wii U. Kingdom Hearts III isn't coming to the Wii U as of now, but it is for Xbox One and Xbox, as far as I know, hasn't ever had a Kingdom Hearts game. I just think there's a very low chance DQXI turns out multiplatform or that SE cares enough to make it that.

Great PS4 numbers
The difference between DQH PS3 and PS4 is smaller than I expected

re 1&2. Given we're in Japan in this thread I was basically pretending Xb one diesn;t exist, so when I say multiplatform I mean Just PS4 and Wii U.

Yes, I agree that power is a potential issue. If SE wants a visually stunning presentation then Wii U just won't stack up to PS4. But if SE is happy to do middle of the road graphics then Wii U will be able to hold its end up. So it does very much depend on their ambitions for the game.

If SE is going a bit cold on Nintendo then sure they have little incentive to throw Wii U a bone with DQ.

Why would SE ignore the 3DS for the next dragon quest? I don't really see any incentive other than sony putting up some cash to help with development. No way it goes to wii u either way lol

First time in a while that the 3DS got taken off from No.1?

Nice HW sales for PS4!!!!!!!
=( ON WII U

What? Its in its 5th year and have you not seen lifetime sales?

I'm just noticing that it's slowing down quickly. After the recent ports of Crysis 3, MGR and RE5 for Android and NVidia's effort, I think handhelds are done for. If the AAA games keep coming to mobile and someone creates a decent joystick add-on or a smartphone with buttons (that doesn't includes the same mistakes of Xperia Play) they will be a thing of the past.

HHs might be dying but with Nintendo and some good third party developers, they'll make sure It wont be completely knocked out. I even believe Sony can continue if they want to. They have third party support (at least in the west).

Want to know the secret reason why HHs wnt die anytime soon?

Pokemon/Mario Kart/Monster Hunter/Japan/Nintendo in General.

Nintendo can just put 1 new pokemon game with at least 2-3 other games and They'll never go under 10mil Sold. I really doubt they'll die in the market even with it changing ever so :)

Apple created a patent for an analogue stick on mobiles that only appears when you push down on it to make it pop up. Nobody wants a phone with thunbsticks but if the user can make them appear and dissappear it becomes a game changer.
