Not only HD screen, but I think Nintendo will ditch resistive for capacitive.

Nintendo has stated that they feel its "boring" to do the same thing over and over, one of the reasons they cut themselves out of the MSony competition. The DS era lasted 2 gens and its time to shake things up. Nintendo is more likely to return to one screen and implement capacitive, than keep the dual/resistive screen combo.

Lets not forget manufacturing costs. The market's flooded with hd capactive screens, so its easier for Ninty to profit by going with cheaper off the shelf parts, than to create some custom sub HD screen. Nintendo is a cost driven company and even though lower res seems cheaper, that doesn't apply now b/c today's lower end has made significant leaps. In 2016 or '17, I highly doubt Nintendo will opt for anything sub 720p. qHD (Vita res.) is the worst case possible IMO.

As far as a darkhorse candidate, one large, foldable screen could very well be in Ninty's plans. http://www.inquisitr.com/1626745/folding-screens-samsung-said-to-release-revolutionary-bendable-phone-later-this-year/
With phablets growing more popular and Nintendo's rumored fusion, I can see Nintendo opting for a larger screen with the desire of maintaining portability.

Leaked Nintendo Fusion specs say no.

Nintendo said many times that finger touching isn't optimal because it blocks the screen. I I think they will go with multitouch resistive. O r maybe we'll get both options.

An HD screen would be very nice, but I won't be surprised if Nintendo's next portable doesn't have one.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

It'd be nice, but I'm fine with anything 480p or higher. I don't want them to sacrifice everything just to make it HD.

I'd be blown away if it doesn't. Low res screens now cost more than high res screens do because so few make low res panels anymore.

This is Nintendo we are talking about, they still may choose not to have HD handhelds :P

Do you have a source for that? Because that doesn't make sense to me, if that is so, then 720p displays should cost more than 1080p of the same size.  Or if let's say you have a big 1080p vs a small 540p display of the same pixel per inch made using the same manufacturing process, shouldn't the cost of ppi be similar, but the smaller low res screen would be cheaper? I'm think sure most displays start out as one, then cut into pieces to meet size and resolution requirements.

Anyway, I think Nintendo will go with qHD or WVGA, next gen, especially if they stick to dual screen. But I can see them going HD if go with a single screen handheld.

I am hoping for an HDS it seems logical to jump to

XBOX ONE/Wii U/3DS/PC
