Ok, I understand now how low res could be more expensive. But there are device that fit within that range. Dell XPS 13.3 1080p, Acer 11.6 1080p tablet, Samsung tab 4 1280x800. Also, isn't capacitive or resistive just a layer in front of the actual display panel?

The Dell is like $1200, and the Samsung Tab 4 $300. I'm sure the cost of the screen is relatively miniscule. Yes, it is a layer. I'm unsure though whether it would be applied before or after the cut.

That would certinly be the smart thing to do, make its construction as standardized as possible to keep costs down. But sadly, Nintendo don't always do the smart thing. Look at Wii U; it's way overpriced for its power level. I don't feel I can trust modern Nintendo to be commonsensical and achieve a power-to-cost ratio as good as nvidia.

Wii U overpriced? than the others are too.

I agree, there's no way in hell I would ever drop the current $500-$600 AUD price tag for a PS4 or an Xbone. But let's be fair, they do offer more horsepower per dollar than the Wii U, cos they don't have an expensive Gamepad adding to system cost.

You're right that Nintendo will stay many years behind the curve as they've been doing since the Wii/DS.

However, 720p might be far enough behind the curve at that point. I mean, my next phone is about to have a 2K screen, so screens are advancing quickly. By the time the 4DS is ready, 720p screens might even be cheap enough for Nintendo to consider. Maybe. They probably won't be awesome OLEDs or anything like that, mind.

Define HD. Many here seem to assume it means 720p and up, but I saw different interpretations of HD before.

1280x720 or higher.

The gamepad doesn't increase the cost much and the horsepower isn't that behind the others. would you like the price more after a pricecut to $199?

What I mean is, PS4/Xbone cost 50% more than Wii U here in Aus, but they have more than 50% more power.

Honestly, at this point I wouldn't buy a PS4/Xbone even at $199. They have done nothing so far to make me want one.

OK. Seriously I doubt it will Nintendos main focus. If they keep the two-screen-strategy, then I dout they will reach it. If the go to a single screen it might happen though.

When buying technology, 50% more expensive normally means several times better, so it's still a better deal.

And I meant $199 for Wii U. I wouldn't buy ps4/x1 for even half that price either.

PS4 and Xbone do have more horsepower per dollar though.

And since I did buy a Wii U for $400 AUD, I think it's fair to say that yes, I would also have bought one at $200. :p

It won't have a HD screen but by the same token it wont need it. That was the Vitas problem really, more resolution than was required for the time which meant too high costs for development.  And what that also lead to was a lot of games running below native resolution which made a lot of games look like a blurry mess which didn't help matters (Wipeout, Everybodys Golf, Soul Sacrifice, Gravity Rush to name a few)  I think the 720x480 is a good shout yes and whilst people will moan at that, its still a great resolution for gaming on a probable 4 to 5 inch screen and allows Nintendo to produce it cheaper.  Hell I still think the PSP resolution is good enough on a screen that size and thats only 480x272.

But more importantly, to make sure it flies out the door from day one, please make it compatible at least with something like Gamecube titles out the box in a digital format. Portable FZero GX, yes please. And with the cube having a 640x480 resolution, your only getting small black bars either side of the picture and native 1:1 mapping with the actual image. Please Nintendo!
