not call it wii u but ultra nintendo entertainment system(unes)
advertise the thing

Why not "Amazing Nintendo Entertainment System" or "Almighty  Nintendo Entertainment System" (ANES)?

Advertisements would be funny.

"Hey, have you seen my anes?", "Let's play with your anes", "Amiibos will enhance your anes experience", "Share your anes pictures on Miiverse"... ;)

I'm not sure if Nintendo had much of a choice. The Wii was at its end. It was also part of Nintendo's infamous marketing system that probably pushed for the system to release way ahead of itself and set itself up for "game droughts" similar to when the 3DS released.

No, it would not have helped. The things that the OP mentions as improvements are not reasons that people didn't or don't buy the WiiU. Those are problems for people that have the WiiU. Seeing as so few people own the WiiU, this message doesn't get beat down much in forums. Hell, I own the WiiU and never even thought of any of those problems.

It is near the end of the end....

No, Nintendo can never win. It's also doomed.

Nintendo's Wii U launch was met with lots of negativity. Long download times for updates, some machines bricking that didn't update properly, slow OS. Features promised at launch that never came or came too late etc. Not to mention things like no megaton launch title outside of another New Super Mario game.

As we all know now though, Wii U of today is a different story. It stands out on its own with a nifty little OS that uses little resources, a eshop with varied indies and tons of great first party exclusives that cover different genres. A quick start feature that gets you straight into your game with little issue as well. Its a overall improved system compared to the Wii U at launch.

Lets say this version of Wii U was the launch version. All the nifty little features right out off the box at launch. Do you think this would have helped the Wii U consoles overall launch window? Lets even include Mario Kart 8 at launch. Its a game that most gamers can agree is a game that can show what the system (not the gamepad, that's a different argument) can do. Do you think that would have been enough to ensure better fortunes?

I actually remember there being a few megatons announced when the system launched (Bayo 2, Xenoblade X, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem). The problem is they showed them two months in and then kept them under wraps FOREVER! Bayo 2 released with Bayo 1 (and it being the best version of it) so that megaton completely paid off, I hope the others do as well.

Granted you are talking about titles that were set to release when the system did, but there were some games to be VERY excited about. Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge was another as well as a promising new title ZombiU. Neither of which really lived up to the hype, but so few video games do this gen. Also Ninja Gaiden 3 going multiplat (as well as Rayman Legends) when they were supposed to be exclusive didn't help

If you adjust the time frame. Than the systems design would also be altered. It would of had higher specs. They would of known what the PS4 and Xone can do. And the Gamepad could of been dropped and never saw the light of day. It might of helped them out. Different ideas could of cropped up and been allowed into the system. It's over 2 years of extra time.

It definitely would have a bigger launch week but since it will be released a year later than PS4/XOne and is underpowered, not many would want to get it. (except for those who already have) so the end result would basically be the same

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

No, because the mainstream are interested in buying consoles because of resolution and not fun.

But I do think sales will pick up due to Xenoblade.  So, nothing to worry about.

I think it would but not cause of having so many games ready, but rather cause they could have potentially squeezed in Zelda in there! Cause heres the thing, Nintendo, even if they were to launch it today, wouldn't release all their zomfg games in the first year. It is a one way ticket to business hell if they did that but the reason I think they would have done better is cause they would have launched with a game that people actually care about like Zelda so yea, probably

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

It would've helped, but ultimately I think Nintendo's bigger problem is all the Mario/Mario Kart/Smash/Zelda/etc. in the world only gets you to about 20 million users.

Spin it, slice it, dice it, however you want that's the problem.

If you want more than that you either need to be competitive with people who aren't Nintendo fans (read: people who buy a PS4/X1 for Grand Theft Auto, Skyrim, Madden NFL, Call of Duty, etc. and don't give two craps about Smash Brothers) or find some other gimmick/fad audience to piggyback off of (like the first Wii did).

Unfortunately for Nintendo, neither of the above options are very easy to get, especially since smart devices have upstaged home devices like Wii and Kinect by a factor of 10.

Gaming enthusiasts won't buy a console that's not technically on par with the current generation as their primary gaming console. So that would've doomed Wii U no matter what.
