Forums - Gaming Discussion - FF Type-0 vs FF XV

Which do you think will be better and why?

Final Fantasy Type-0 11 14.47%

Final Fantasy XV 65 85.53%

Total:76

Which game do you think will end up being better? I actually think Type-0 will be. It seems to fit more into the FF franchise and follows many of the same rules set by its predecessors. It makes no qualms about it being linear, it is what it is, and that is actually where the generally accepted as best of the series sit (FFVI or FFVII). They were linear games with the exception of the semi open world much closer to the end of the game on both of them, but even with those many facets emphasize doing things in a particular order to accomplish the task.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

Well, I think it will be FFXV but I need more info on it first

Final Fantasy XV. Reason: Hype.

One would hope FFXV is pretty darn great, as it has been in development for like a decade.

I'm a bit worried about both, no turn based combat....

Admittedly, they probably won't be as good as Kingdom Hearts even without it having turn based combat. XII was also excellent, but I'd rather a IX or X style game

Funny, to me that is a reason it likely won't be as good. How many times has it went into development then been scrapped in that time? With so many different people with different visions for the game that have come and gone if any ideas still remain from them they might be quite convoluted now. In many ways now, even though it has been in 'development' for so long, with the recent engine change and change of the helm, it almost seems like this could actually be rushed since it has likely started from scratch again. There was so little information on it for so long then all of a sudden we hear it is 60 percent complete. Did it take nearly a decade for the 60 percent? If so we shouldn't see the rest of the game for another 5-6 years. Since it is likely to be out by my guess next year 2016, or if it squeeks in 2015 that's 40 percent of the game development in roughly a year or a bit more plus the translations and work to get it produced and distributed in a very short amount of time.

I haven't liked the MMO's of FF games. This game shares the open world and non linearity of those. Type-0 seems like it's a bit more back to basics FF game. I think it will be better received in the long run.

I see what you mean, but there don't need to be a line or direct correlation of turn based. If there is any cool down timer in any sense then it is still semi turn based. A couple good references for that would be the likes of Xenoblade and The Last Story.

Well I just bought a new 3DS partially for Xenoblade...

But I do prefer actual turn based. Though frankly Tabata directed Crisis Core which was excellent and many of the same principles were carried over to BBS (which l love) and then Type 0. Then of course he directed XV

I'm not worried. But I'd be delighted if XVI was "more traditional"

FFXV easily.

Type 0 will get mixed reviews, mark my word. It looks like a highly repetitive mission based action game designed for handheld play.

The only area it might surpass XV is in story. In terms of quality in general its really unlikely XV will be mixed bag. The only mainline FF to get mixed reviews was XIII and even then it was mostly praised (even the battle system that everyone on here hated). The negatives were mostly the extent of the forced linearity, something XV isn't going to suffer from.

Off the top of my head I'm thinking XV battle system might be too simplified but that won't stop it from scoring an 80+. Its like expecting a mainline Zelda game to get sub 90, not going to happen unless something really goes wrong. Type 0 however will sit in the 70s, its main saving grace will be its entry price+ people knowing its a psp port versus treating it like brand new FF.

when will ppl get this straight? it was announced almost a decade ago true, but it hasn't actually been in development.

Anyways I'll go with FF15. I have a feeling it's going to be the best FF since FF9. Hell, the return of the world map and making said world map traversable puts it right up there already in my book.
