Both the PS and XBOX brand are in the red when profits are concerned.

I don't know why people keep using this image.  For one, it is using Operating Income for Sony and Microsoft, but Net Income for Nintendo.  It hasn't been updated in years.  That 2012 Sony number is from when they briefly rolled in things like TVs and PCs into a "Consumer Products & Services" division.  The next year they broke "Game" back out and it showed a 29.3 billion yen profit for 2012 rather than the 229.8 billion yen loss.  So, no, the PS brand isn't in the red.

that's nice... unless you have a breakdown of where the costs/profits are of third party software, that information is pretty irrelevant to this discussion...

Don't bother, that's the second time today he's just outright ignored the point to post that.  He doesn't actually read posts; he just picks up key words and runs with them.

Sony was allready in plus in 2013 with the last of us release and many PS+ subscribtions before ps4 came out. Sony probably makes now more money than nintendo

unlikely, during the PS2 era even though hardware and software sales were incredibly strong for Sony, and Nintendo's sales with the Gamecube were terrible, Nintendo STILL made more in profit

I think a lot of people here are naive to the fact that Microsoft and Sony do things with their consoles that Nintendo refuses to do- they are willing to lose massive amount of $$$ to get their hardware into homes with the hope that software sales will bring them profit. obviously it's hard from a fullproof plan

We're resorting to ad hominems now? Classy.

The poll results and yearly profits of Nintendo speak for themselves. One just needs to look at the sales of Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS and Pokémon ORAS to know the answer.

Ad homenim is attacking a person's character.  All I've done is point out a literal fact of something you've done twice today.

The amount of times you can ignore what I actually say is ASTOUNDING to me.

So you stood there watching me while I supposedly did not read your post? You literally did that?

But I am going to ignore you from now on yes. ;)

Like I said, Pokémon ORAS and SSB for Wii U and 3DS alone can compensate for the royalties of 70 million third party games sold. According to vgchartz the PS4 has sold 90 million games already. If we exclude all first party games the number will be even lower (it's Nintendo's first party profits vs. Sony/MS royalties after all). Let's now start adding games like Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8. Game over.

I said you ignored them for your own benefit, because the only alternative is that your reading comprehension is that bad.

Please do go ahead and ignore me though.  We're probably going to get scolded by a mod for bickering anyway.  XD

Nintendo first party games would get the money for the developer, publisher and console maker.  This should be in your OP.

So doesn't that mean that Nintendo also gets  a good chunk from what would normally be spent marketing, since they don't really market their product... I am being serious, btw. There's a few exceptions of course, but for the most part it seems like Nintendo is content not spending money on advertising.

Either way I think they make a significant profit, because I doubt their games are as expensive as something like Destiny or GTA.

Nintendo doesn't waste their money making shady deals with third party studios and having expensive console bundles with third party games. ;)

Or do you think exclusive marketing, third party games in console bundles, exclusive content, exclusive dlc, timed exclusivety, permanent exclusivety, etc. is free?

Well Microsoft lost because of the original Xbox and from. Not because of what you listed. Other wise they would have been in the red every year (;

Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out

Ps4:110million

Xbox one :75 million( was 65)

Wii u: 20 milliion

also, nice, but again, not relevent to the discussion of this thread.  Why don't we stick to the thread topic, yes?

It's very much relevant. The sales wouldn't be this high (or low) without these kind of deals. Therefor they should be factored in.

How many games are given away for "free" on PSN Plus? You think Sony doesn't have to pay third parties for that?

That's not the reason sony and Microsoft are in the red.  The reason is hardware not software.
