Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Does anyone think Mario and Sonic at the 2016 Rio Games will happen?

Will the series have a new game?

This may be already a thread, but since SEGA announced most of their games will be on PC and mobile for now on, do you think they will continue the Mario and Sonic Olympic franchise? The last game was released in 2013 and was only on the Wii U, skipping a handheld version.

nice

I can't imagine they cost too much money to make, but even then, the last one has only sold about 500k so far. They may want to ditch the series, especially with SEGA (mostly) abandoning the home console space.

Might make more sense to ditch the Olympic license and just make a generic Mario & Sonic Sports game. Gives them more flexibility in sporting events too.

It'll probs be the last one seeing as how the other one sold. Well at least for this Gen. But I don't really care anyways

Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out

Ps4:110million

Xbox one :75 million( was 65)

Wii u: 20 milliion

They're probably cheap to make, so they can get away with 500k+ copies being sold, plus a higher installbase on Wii U perhaps bumping that number slightly/

I could kinda see another Mario/Sonic Sports game sorta thrown out as a filler release for Wii U in 2016.

This, a Mario and Sonic sports mix would freshen the series up a bit. The last Winter games version on Wii U was pretty decent for what it is and much better than the Wii version. However as Soundwave says, people can only stomache the same events over and over for so long.

Nope, Nintendo said that there won't be a new Mario announcement this year.

This year isnt 2016.

They share the weight and it sells ok, so probably yes.
