Forums - Gaming Discussion - Fanboys and poverty ~ Is there a link?

Do you agree that there is a link between fanboys and poverty?

No 37 44.05%

Undecided 2 2.38%

I know this is not a serious thread but maybe some of us don't want to spend all our money on gaming? It doesn't mean people are poor, if anything, gaming is not a hobby for "poor" folks, especially console gaming. People have priorities.

I may seem like a fanboy, but I promise I'm not . Apart from that I guess I kind of agree with your view that poverty ( albeit upper high class poverty as In able to afford basic needs easily) may leas one to become a fanboy.

Judging by your response I'd say either you're not a fanboy as described in the post, or you just didn't read it properly :P

I'm a sony fanboy, but I'm not unreasonable. I still don't agree that being an extreme fanboy has some sort of connection to being "poor."

Or maybe there are no rich gamers because art and entertainment that teaches us lessons we wouldn't have experienced through a non exaggerated fantasy is for the poor.

The fact that you have to comment "this is not a serious thread" shows it is quite likely boarderline and probably shouldn't have been done as it is in poor taste.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

Even if this is not a serious thread, of course there is a link. At least 2 even.

The biggest one though is limited choice. If you can only make one choice for a gaming option you are more inclined to defend your purchase because it directly connects with your self worth. If you bought the "wrong" product not only does that mean you don't get enough bang out of your buck but it will also reflect on your poor money managing skills, which is(or at least should be) a big part of any poor person's life.
They simply cannot afford to have made a wrong purchase, literally.

That's why they're more prone to defend the product they bought to the death because their product choice reflects on them as a person. That's very easy to see with kids who don't have money on their own and need to rely on what they get. They will get a lot more attached to the things they got than a rich kid who can get anything it wants.

I wonder who the first person is to misread what I just said as "there are no rich fanboys and everyone who is poor is a loser fanboy".

I make 150k a year after taxes. I refuse to buy an Xbox based on principle. (They fucked up my favorite dev Rare, and I don't like their business approach, ie look at the shit they tried to pull with the XB1 before the 180, you really think they won't try that again if they see the opportunity?)
